This result mainly comes from the boom in the international passenger market, lower fuel prices compared to the same period, along with the airline's efforts to operate flexibly and effectively.

In the first three months of 2025, the number of international passengers to Vietnam reached about 11.7 million, up 13.3% over the same period; the number of domestic visitors reached more than 9 million, up 3.6%. Of which, the whole country welcomed more than 6 million international visitors, setting a record high in the history of the tourism industry.

Following the strong recovery momentum, Vietnam Airlines Group is estimated to have transported nearly 6.2 million passengers, of which Vietnam Airlines alone transported more than 6 million, up 6.7% and 6.5% respectively over the same period last year. International market regions all recorded positive growth, with the Indian market increasing the most by 26.6%, followed by the Middle East by 25.8%, and Northeast Asia by 13.6% thanks to the recovery of China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

The quality of international visitors has also improved significantly, especially in high-revenue markets such as Japan, Australia and India. High-revenue visitors from Japan have recovered to nearly 90% compared to the same period in 2019, instead of 60% as in the same period last year. Vietnam Airlines' consolidated revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at nearly VND 31,107 billion; pre-tax profit is nearly VND 3,625 billion. The parent company Vietnam Airlines achieved revenue of nearly VND 25,019 billion and pre-tax profit of nearly VND 3,044 billion.

In addition, Vietnam Airlines benefits from an average fuel price maintained at around USD 91/barrel in the first quarter of 2025, nearly 5% lower than the average last year and much lower than forecast, thereby improving cost efficiency.

Besides passenger transport, freight transport also recorded positive results, with revenue in the first three months of 2025 exceeding the plan by more than VND220 billion, contributing significantly to profit growth.

In the context of Pratt & Whitney (PW) engine recall, Vietnam Airlines has proactively adjusted flight schedules and optimized operating slots. Aircraft operating efficiency increased by nearly 10% over the same period, significantly improving operational efficiency. Vietnam Airlines has also proactively maintained a stable domestic flight network, allocated reasonable flight schedules, optimized resources during international peak periods, and leased three additional aircraft during Tet, directly contributing VND37.3 billion to business efficiency.

Along with positive business results, Vietnam Airlines implemented many outstanding activities in the first quarter of 2025, consolidating its brand position in the domestic and international markets.

In the field of financial cooperation, the airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth 560 million USD with Citibank; signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Vietcombank ; and signed with VNPT to deploy Internet in-flight service (IFC) for the Airbus A350 fleet, marking a new step in the strategy to enhance passenger experience.

In the international market, Vietnam Airlines has continuously launched and restored many key routes such as Hanoi - Bengaluru, is preparing to open another route Hanoi - Hyderabad, and resume flights to Northeast Asia.

The airline also officially put into operation the Boeing 787-9 aircraft bearing the Lac Bird logo, promoting the image of Vietnam to the world and celebrating its 30th anniversary. At the same time, Vietnam Airlines pioneered operations at Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal, enhancing the passenger experience.

Vietnam Airlines pioneered the application of electronic identification and authentication throughout the flight process, becoming the first airline in Vietnam to apply biometric solutions combined with electronic identification (VNeID), improving passenger experience and promoting digital transformation.

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam Airlines continued to make its mark with many prestigious awards: "Asia's Leading Cultural Airline" and "Vietnam's Best Airline for In-flight Services" from World Travel Awards; for the first time appearing in the "Top 25 Safest Airlines in the World" and "Top 25 Best Airlines in the World" voted by AirlineRatings.com; and continued to be honored with the "World's Best Value Premium Economy" award for the second consecutive time.

Positive business results in the first quarter of 2025 create a solid foundation for Vietnam Airlines to effectively implement its 2025 production and business plan. In the second quarter, Vietnam Airlines will urgently prepare resources to serve the peak season of April 30 - May 1 and the summer peak season, while flexibly operating the flight network to optimize costs and increase revenue.
