On January 13, Republicans in the US House of Representatives introduced a bill called the "Make Greenland Great Again Act", which would allow President-elect Donald Trump to negotiate with Denmark to buy Greenland.

The bill was authored by Representatives Andy Ogles and Diana Harshbarger, both from Tennessee. As of the morning of January 13, the bill had been passed by 10 lawmakers.

According to Fox News, this bill will allow Mr. Donald Trump to initiate the process of "seeking negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to ensure Washington takes over Greenland" on January 20, the day he takes office as the 47th President of the United States.

If a deal is reached with Denmark, Mr. Trump will have to turn over the agreement and all accompanying documents and annexes to congressional committees within five days.

This is the latest in a series of bills proposed by Republicans aimed at realizing Trump's vision of a vast new America.

Last week, Republicans introduced a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America on official documents and maps, as well as negotiate the purchase of the Panama Canal.

On January 7, US President-elect Donald Trump declared that Greenland must join the US to defend against threats. Back in his first presidential term in 2019, Mr. Trump said that the US could buy Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark.

Mr. Trump himself has not ruled out the possibility of using tough military or economic measures to gain control of the Panama Canal and buy Greenland.

Despite the US moves, the Greenland and Danish governments have dismissed the idea of ​​buying the world's largest island in the Arctic as absurd.

On January 13, Danish Prime Minister Mute Egede announced that Greenland wants to cooperate more closely with the United States in the field of defense and exploitation of natural resources on this Arctic island and is looking for cooperation measures with Washington as well as ready to start a dialogue with the Trump administration.

Asked about expanding US military capabilities on the island, Prime Minister Egede said: “Greenland’s independence is a Greenlandic matter, as is the use of our territory. So it is Greenland itself that will decide what kind of agreement we should work towards.”

However, the leader also noted that this is the first time Greenland has "attracted such strong attention. We need to stay calm, take advantage of everything and stand together."
