The match against the Thai Police in the second round of Group A of the 2025 Southeast Asian Police Football Tournament at Hang Day Stadium is of great significance to the Vietnam People's Police (CAND) I team in winning a ticket to the next round.

However, despite dominating their opponents in ball possession, the players of CAND Vietnam I could not penetrate the net of the Thai Police once during the official match.

The most regrettable thing is that although a series of professional players currently playing in the V-League were put on the field, such as Le Pham Thanh Long, Le Van Do, Hoang Van Toan, Giap Tuan Duong, or Ho Ngoc Thang, none of them could make a difference.

CAND Vietnam I played hard throughout the first half and it was not until the 64th minute that they had a truly dangerous opportunity, when Hoang Van Toan was crossed by his teammate and had a close-range tap-in. Unfortunately, the shot from the player who had been called up to the Vietnam national team under Philippe Troussier went high into the sky. This was also the best chance of the match for the home team.

In the final minutes of the match, CAND Vietnam I forced the Thai Police back to their home field but could not penetrate the opponent's dense defense. If not for luck, CAND Vietnam I could have lost when the opponent counterattacked in extra time.

With a 0-0 draw, CAND Vietnam I only had 1 point after 2 matches and ranked 3rd in Group A. The team lost the right to self-determination in the context that Cambodian Police had 6 points, Thai Police had 4 points and shared the top 2 positions in the group.

In the final round, CAND Vietnam I must beat Cambodia and hope Thailand loses to bottom team Laos to be able to continue.

In the opposite direction, the Vietnam Police II team won a resounding victory in the same day's match in Group B, crushing the Australian Police with a score of 10-3 and winning a ticket to the semi-finals.

On the evening of July 9, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Southeast Asian Police Football Tournament was elaborately and grandly staged. The performances combined traditional and modern music , imbued with the cultural identities of the countries in the region.

In particular, the drum performance created a highlight with the combination of lion and dragon dances, imbued with Vietnamese culture with the theme "Aspiration to shine" - performed by nearly 600 students of the People's Police Academy - Ministry of Public Security .
