With many creative activities, a friendly reading environment and a rich collection of documents, this place has been nurturing a love of reading, cultivating life skills, and contributing to the formation of the personality of the young generation.
According to statistics, since the beginning of the year, Lao Cai Provincial Library has served over 47,500 readers, of which 70-80% are students from primary to high school. In the past 3 months alone, over 1,410 new reader cards have been issued, mainly to students.
The highlight of the Provincial Library is its diverse resource base with 218,559 books of all kinds, including Chinese books, children's books, science and technology books, life skills books and many reference books. In 2025, the Provincial Library will add 12,000 new books, of which 6,858 are specifically for children.

Along with traditional printed books, the Provincial Library also focuses on developing an electronic library. To date, there have been 1,375 digital documents, equivalent to 350,750 digitized pages. The modern computer system and free internet connection help students easily look up and study on-site, contributing to developing the habit of reading in the digital age.
In order to meet the learning and entertainment needs of students during the summer, the Provincial Library has organized many attractive activities such as drawing pictures from books, introducing good books, instructing on information search skills, mobile reading programs, giving books to students in difficult circumstances...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Head of User Services Department, said: “During the summer, the number of students coming to the library increases many times compared to normal days, requiring us to be well prepared. In addition to rotating staff at the book lending and returning counters, we also increase the number of staff to guide and support students in choosing suitable books. The reading space is also adjusted more flexibly, ensuring quietness for readers while creating conditions for interactive activities such as storytelling, drawing, and book discussions.”

The library also regularly updates books that are popular with students such as “Vietnamese History in Pictures”, comic books “Detective Conan”, “Doraemon”, “Ty Quay”, “One Hundred Thousand Questions Why”, or works by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh such as “I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass”, “Give Me a Ticket to Childhood”...
The reading space dedicated to children is designed lively, using suitable tables and chairs, brightly painted walls, and eye-catching decorations. Many books are integrated with QR codes to support quick lookup. Equipment such as projectors, touch screens, and networked computers are also put into service.

Ms. Dinh Thuy Quynh, a staff member of the Provincial Library, shared: “Every day, we come into contact with hundreds of students of different ages. The number of young readers is quite large, so maintaining a quiet space requires tact. We always try to listen, guide gently, help the children both study and play, but still maintain the general order.”
Not only serving the reading needs of students, the Provincial Library is also a bridge between families, schools and social organizations in educating reading culture. Ms. Cao Thi Thanh, Lao Cai Provincial Social Work Center said: “Lao Cai Provincial Library is one of the meaningful destinations for children living and studying at the Provincial Social Work Center. Children coming to the Provincial Library not only access a rich source of books, but also practice life skills through extracurricular activities”.

Many parents also choose the Provincial Library as a summer vacation destination for their children to have a space to study and socialize. Here, children can make new friends, participate in group activities, and increase their confidence and communication skills.
The library space has truly become a place to nurture dreams and aspirations for the young generation. Tong Khanh Linh, a 5A5 student at Nguyen Du Primary School, who won first prize in the provincial Reading Culture Competition, shared: “I often go to the library on weekends to read comics and tell stories. This summer, I will come every afternoon to read books and review knowledge.”
Nguyen Chi Tuong, a 12th grade student at Lao Cai City High School No. 2, said: “The library is a place with many books synthesizing knowledge in the form of new exam questions, which is very useful for 12th grade students. In addition to printed books, I also use the electronic library to look up reference materials.”

According to Ms. Vy Kieu Kim, Deputy Director of the Provincial Library, in the coming time, the unit will continue to modernize facilities, expand digital document storage, develop electronic libraries and promote cooperation with schools, parents, and social organizations to spread reading culture to the community.
“We clearly define that libraries are not only for storing knowledge, but also for creating an open learning environment, arousing the love of books and the spirit of self-study in the young generation. Each book is a new world, we believe that libraries will be the starting point for sustainable journeys of knowledge, giving wings to dreams to fly far,” Ms. Kim emphasized.
From small books to great aspirations - Lao Cai Provincial Library is contributing to nurturing a generation of learning, creative and humane citizens.
