"Swimmer" Huy Hoang continuously sets records at the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships

"Vietnam's No. 1 swimmer" Nguyen Huy Hoang finished first in the men's 1,500m freestyle race (age group over 18) with a time of 15 minutes 24 seconds 69, breaking the Asian youth group record.

After two days of competition, as of the morning of February 28, Vietnamese sports ranked 5th on the rankings of the 2024 Asian Age Group Swimming Championships taking place in New Clark City (Philippines), with 8 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.

Among the above Gold medals, the most impressive achievement is that of "Vietnam's number 1 swimmer" Nguyen Huy Hoang when he finished first in the men's 1,500m freestyle race (age group over 18) with a time of 15 minutes 24 seconds 69.

This achievement helped Huy Hoang break the Asian youth group record in the men's 1,500m freestyle swimming event.

Previously, on February 27, Nguyen Huy Hoang also won a gold medal in the 800m freestyle event for the age group of 18 and above. The achievement of 8 minutes 1 second 69 that Huy Hoang achieved broke the record set by athlete Rawat Kushagra (India) at the 2019 tournament (8 minutes 10 seconds 05).

In the men's 400m individual medley (age group over 18), the Vietnamese Swimming Team also won the Gold medal when athlete Tran Hung Nguyen achieved a time of 4 minutes 23 seconds 78. In this event, Hung Nguyen's teammate Cao Van Dung also competed hard and won the Silver medal with a result of 4 minutes 24 seconds 55.

The competition day of February 27 was also the day when young face Duong Van Hoang Quy shined. This athlete won 2 gold medals in the men's 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly in the 13-14 age group, with the parameters of 4 minutes 06 seconds 53 and 2 minutes 3 seconds 54 respectively.

The 11th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships took place from February 26 to March 9 in the Philippines. This year's event attracted the participation of about 1,300 athletes from 31 countries around the world .

Athletes in the age groups 12-14, 15-17 and 18+ will compete in four events: swimming (February 26-29), diving (February 26-March 1), synchronized swimming (March 2-6) and water polo (March 3-9).

The swimming teams with the most members participating in this tournament come from India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the host Philippines has 44 athletes participating with 22 male athletes and 22 female athletes.
