Kon Tum will plant nearly 1,600 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng.

Specifically, of the total area of ​​Ngoc Linh ginseng planned for planting in 2025, 60 hectares will be cultivated by local people (15 hectares in Dak Glei district and 45 hectares in Tu Mo Rong district); the remaining more than 1,500 hectares will be planted by businesses such as Kon Tum Ngoc Linh Ginseng Joint Stock Company, Vingin Joint Stock Company, Tu Mo Rong Ngoc Linh Ginseng Joint Stock Company, and Dak To Forestry One-Member Limited Liability Company. Through discussions with relevant authorities, these businesses currently expect to have sown and nurtured over 15.2 million seedlings, enough to meet the planting target for the 2025 crop year.

To develop Ngoc Linh ginseng according to plan, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Kon Tum province have proposed solutions such as: encouraging businesses with ginseng cultivation investment projects to accelerate the planting progress according to approved investment projects; promoting the leasing of forests and forest environments for ginseng and medicinal plant cultivation in accordance with Article 248 of the 2025 Land Law; and urgently submitting to competent authorities for decision to expand the geographical indication area of ​​Ngoc Linh ginseng to some suitable areas.

In particular, to protect the Ngoc Linh ginseng brand, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Kon Tum province have requested relevant agencies to strengthen the management of Ngoc Linh ginseng varieties in accordance with the Law on Crop Production and other related regulations; strictly handle violations; strengthen gene (DNA) identification of Ngoc Linh ginseng seedlings; and carefully control the quantity of seeds harvested annually.

In Kon Tum, the planned area for cultivating Ngoc Linh ginseng is approximately 17,000 hectares; of which, over 8,800 hectares are planted under the canopy of special-use forests, over 4,150 hectares in protection forests, and over 4,000 hectares in production forests. Currently, although over 8,800 hectares of special-use forests are very suitable for cultivating Ngoc Linh ginseng, this is a strictly protected area and therefore cannot be allocated or leased due to policy and regulatory obstacles.

According to statistics, the cumulative area of ​​Ngoc Linh ginseng cultivation by the end of 2024 was approximately 2,922 hectares, reaching 64.9% of the target set in the Resolution of the 16th Provincial Party Congress; of which, more than 333 hectares were cultivated by the people.
