Signing of minutes of border protection coordination between Quang Tri and Savannakhet

On November 19 in Cayson Phomvihan city (Savannakhet province, Laos), the Border Guard delegation under the Military Command of Quang Tri province visited, held annual talks and signed a memorandum of cooperation on border protection in 2025 with the Military Command of Savannakhet province.

The meeting was co-chaired by Colonel Tran Xuan Lan, Deputy Commander of the Quang Tri Border Guard, and Colonel Sucsamon Siphandone, Commander of the Savannakhet Provincial Military Command.

At the talks, the two sides comprehensively discussed the socio -economic, defense and security situation of Quang Tri and Savannakhet provinces; assessed the results of implementing the contents agreed in the minutes of the 2024 talks. Over the past year, the border protection forces of the two provinces maintained close coordination, organized 30 bilateral patrols with the participation of 720 officers and soldiers, contributing to maintaining the status quo of the border line and national border markers.

In particular, in 2024-2025, the two units successfully coordinated to organize a drill to prevent illegal immigration and illegal entry and exit across the Vietnam-Laos border; regularly shared and exchanged information; and at the same time directed grassroots forces to strengthen propaganda for border residents to strictly comply with the Border Protocol, the Agreement on Border Management Regulations and the laws of each country. The coordination work has contributed to raising awareness, preventing and denouncing crimes; ensuring security and order along the entire route.

During the year, the Quang Tri Border Guard also supported the Savannakhet Provincial Military Command with specialized equipment worth more than VND900 million; organized border training for 20 officers and soldiers of the border, thereby enhancing coordination capacity and handling tasks at border gates and border areas.

The two sides also frankly discussed a number of outstanding issues and agreed to sign the 2025 meeting minutes with many important orientations. In the coming time, the border guards of the two provinces will continue to strictly implement legal documents on the Vietnam-Laos border; increase information exchange; coordinate in the fight against cross-border crimes, especially drug crimes; prevent illegal migration and activities of reactionary organizations.

The two sides also agreed to promote people-to-people diplomacy activities; establish twinned residential areas on both sides of the border; promote border economic development projects; maintain regular bilateral patrols; and increase exchanges and professional exchanges between units.

These practical cooperation activities contribute to building a peaceful , friendly, stable and developed Vietnam - Laos border; continuing to strengthen the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
