(NLDO) - Phu Quoc will continue to be the leading locality in the fight against IUU fishing, making an important contribution to the effort to remove the "yellow card" for Vietnam's seafood industry.

In a series of propaganda activities during the peak period of preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, on November 8, at Phu Quoc Special Zone of An Giang province, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 coordinated with the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone to organize a conference to propagate the law on preventing and combating IUU fishing for more than 150 officials, civil servants, vehicle owners, captains and fishermen in the area.

Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4, spoke at the conference.

Through propaganda to raise awareness among officials and people about the Party's viewpoints, policies, guidelines and legal regulations on preventing IUU fishing; Building awareness and responsibility for law enforcement in marine fishing activities for fishermen and vehicle owners; thereby creating momentum and combined strength, joining hands to remove the "yellow card" for the Vietnamese fisheries industry, for the long-term interests and prestige of the country.

At the conference, the reporters of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command informed the delegates, vehicle owners, captains and fishermen in the area about the basic content of the Prime Minister 's telegram; the Resolution of the Supreme People's Court's Council of Judges on guiding the application of a number of provisions of the Penal Code on criminal prosecution for acts related to illegal exploitation, trading and transportation of aquatic products and relevant legal provisions on combating IUU fishing.

At the same time, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command also organized ship owners to sign a commitment not to violate IUU fishing when exploiting seafood at sea.

Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong and Mr. Phan Chien Thang, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee, presented gifts to fishermen in difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4, said that combating IUU fishing is an important task that requires the cooperation of the government, functional forces and all fishermen.

"With the determination of the entire political system and the support of fishermen, we believe that Phu Quoc special zone will continue to be the leading locality in the fight against IUU fishing, making an important contribution to the effort to remove the "yellow card" for Vietnam's seafood industry in An Giang province," Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong emphasized.
