100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day:

In June, the royal poinciana flowers bloom bright red on the streets. In the summer of Hanoi, the sun and heat are up to 37-38 degrees Celsius for several days in a row. It seems that the sun and heat are intoxicating to the journalists who approach the scene, go to the field, and celebrate the traditional day of the press industry.

May saw many important events in the country. Following that is the anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7); the anniversary of the Victory Day over Fascism (May 9). For journalists, an important event on the agenda of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission and the Vietnam Journalists Association is the Workshop "100 Years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025" which recently took place in Hanoi, attracting more than 400 journalists, managers, and scientific researchers, with the theme: Vietnamese revolutionary press accompanies the nation, serves the Fatherland, and serves the people.

The above workshop coincides with the occasion when press agencies and associations at all levels celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Journalists Association (1950-2025); the 75th anniversary of the 1st Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association (Vietnam Journalists Association: June 2, 1950 - June 2, 2025). 2. In the life and great revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh, there was an important milestone: He founded Thanh Nien newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, published its first issue on June 21, 1925, in Guangdong (China).

With the aim of gathering patriotic youth with communist tendencies, leader Nguyen Ai Quoc was mobilized by the Eastern Department of the Communist International from the Soviet Union to Guangdong to build the movement, gradually preparing politically, ideologically and organizationally for the birth of a Marxist party in Vietnam. He opened political training classes, trained cadres, and prepared for the birth of a political party in the country.

Thanh Nien newspaper is closely associated with the name of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc. The editorial office was located at No. 13 (now No. 248-250), Van Minh Street, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province (China). The first generation of communist soldiers were also excellent students, accompanying the newspaper, including the soldiers-authors: Le Hong Son, Ho Tung Mau, Truong Van Linh, Le Duy Diem. Thanh Nien newspaper laid the foundation for the Vietnamese revolutionary press and June 21st went down in history as Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

3. In the cause of national liberation, fighting against colonialism, imperialism and feudalism, under the leadership of our Party, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has always been a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front; accompanying the nation, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people. Every press agency, every revolutionary journalist always keeps in mind the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh - the teacher of the Vietnamese revolutionary press: " Press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers; pens and paper are their sharp weapons. To fulfill their glorious duties, press cadres need to cultivate revolutionary ethics, strive to improve their ideology, expertise and culture ."

Poet Song Hong portrays the portrait of a warrior writer: “ Use the pen as a lever to change the regime. Each verse of poetry is a bomb to destroy tyranny .”

Before the August Revolution in 1945 and the period of the “nine-year resistance war” against French colonialism, our Party always promoted its leadership role, exploiting the strength of the press force to serve the resistance war and national construction. During this period, the Party’s press agencies and patriotic mass organizations fulfilled their noble mission, contributing to the struggle for national liberation and the overthrow of colonialism and feudalism.

National history records the achievements on the propaganda front of newspaper editorial offices, typically including the newspapers: Central National Salvation, Truth, Independence, Guerrilla Army, National Defense Army, Labor, Women, and Joy of Life... Party and organization leaders, soldiers on the front line, are also sharp and sturdy writers like ironwood in the journalism world, their names will forever be famous.

They are poet Song Hong (pen name of General Secretary Truong Chinh), journalist Van Dinh (General Vo Nguyen Giap). And journalists who are also poets, writers, and political commentators: Xuan Thuy, Hoang Tung, Do Duc Duc, Hai Trieu, Luu Van Loi, Huynh Tan Phat, Huynh Van Tieng, Nguyen Thanh Le, Hong Chuong, Luu Quy Ky, Quang Dam, Phan Thao, Nhu Phong, Dao Tung, Phan Quang...

4. The golden pages of the history of Vietnam's revolutionary press record the glorious names of heroic soldiers and martyrs of the press who devoted their youth to the great revolutionary cause of the nation. The Vietnam Press Museum records the silent feats of generations of journalists serving the sacred resistance wars of the nation. They were present at the most fierce and smoky fronts, fighting side by side with soldiers in the trenches. They held pens, carried film cameras, cameras, radios and guns. They fought bravely, sacrificing their blood and bones like true soldiers.

The Press Museum honors 512 martyrs in the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism and the border war to protect the Fatherland, including 260 martyrs from the Vietnam News Agency. Of those, 19 were “forever 20 years old” among 66 female reporters who went to battlefield B and died on the land of the South. The Fatherland and the people will forever remember the heroic imprints of martyr journalists and war correspondents such as Tran Kim Xuyen, Tran Dang, Hoang Loc, Thoi Huu, Le Dinh Du, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Duong Thi Xuan Quy, Le Anh Xuan, Nguyen Huy, Nguyen Trong Dinh, etc.

Journalists and press agencies have made a historical mark, no different from a feat, making the name of independent and heroic Vietnam famous to the world. That is the news of the Voice of Vietnam Radio, Vietnam News Agency broadcasting the Declaration of Independence of President Ho Chi Minh on September 2, 1945; The call for national resistance of President Ho and the Government (December 19, 1946)... Western commentators commented: The news and photo of the Liberation Army tank crashing through the gate of the Independence Palace of the Saigon government at noon on April 30, 1975 were more powerful than many blockbuster bombs!

5. Vietnam is a unified country, the whole country joins hands to build and protect the Fatherland, the press force still promotes the spirit of shock, takes the lead in the emulation movements of good production, is ready to fight and serve in combat. History records the role and responsibility of press agencies, the team of reporters always takes the lead, dares to take on difficult tasks during the 40 years of national renovation led by our Party. Generations of journalists have not hesitated to commit themselves, immerse themselves in the vibrant, stormy life of the people; use their pens to fight against evil, because "literature is anthropology", "journalists are soldiers on the ideological and cultural front".

The war against the “internal invaders” is silent but fierce, arduous, and fierce, and still requires a lot of sweat, tears, and sometimes even blood. That requires the heart and courage of journalists. Therefore, it is necessary to build a cultural environment in newspaper offices and cultured journalists for an honest and humane journalism. Therefore, reporters must seriously self-reflect, self-correct, and strictly implement the 10-article Regulation on professional ethics of journalists.

Society is in need, in great need of valuable journalistic works reflecting advanced models, good people - good deeds, brave actions, but also in great need of reportage and investigation articles participating in journalism competitions. Agencies from the central to local levels are having open "playgrounds" to welcome excellent journalistic works to participate in the National Journalism Awards, the Golden Hammer and Sickle Journalism Awards, the Dien Hong Journalism Awards, etc.

In 2025, many important events of the country will take place, which is also an opportunity, a "land of opportunity" for the Vietnamese press. Press agencies and journalists' associations at all levels are in sync with the country and the nation entering a "new era, an era of national growth", setting many new achievements and new records to welcome the 14th National Party Congress.
