Celebrating 30 years of MobiFone - 1

Vietnam's first network operator pioneering in the field of international cooperation

On April 16, 1993, VMS Mobile Information Company - Vietnam's first mobile network was officially established under the brand name MobiFone . When it was first established, MobiFone network only had 7 BTS stations in Hanoi and 3 BTS stations in the Southern region.

Since its establishment, MobiFone has quickly entered into international cooperation with the world's leading telecommunications group Comvik/Kinnevik (Sweden) since 1995, thereby taking advantage of the capital and experience of foreign partners in building infrastructure, business strategy and corporate culture, as a foundation for development in the later stages.

The successful 10-year BCC cooperation contract with Comvik is considered one of the most effective business cooperation contracts in Vietnam.

More than two decades after its establishment, in 2014, MobiFone has grown to become a Corporation under the Ministry of Information and Communications. By November 2018, MobiFone was transferred the ownership representative rights to the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises.

Over the past 30 years, from the first bricks that built the Vietnamese mobile telecommunications industry, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, with the determination and consensus of employees, for many consecutive years, MobiFone has strived to successfully complete assigned tasks. MobiFone has constantly strived to become a technology enterprise, actively participating in implementing the National Strategy for developing information infrastructure, digital infrastructure, ensuring network information security and the National Program on enhancing the capacity of independence, autonomy and self-reliance of Vietnam's manufacturing sector by 2045 (Make in Vietnam 2045).

Developing new business spaces with digital technology

In the context of declining global revenue growth of traditional mobile services, the explosive trend of data consumption along with the development of new technology has put great pressure on the telecommunications industry in general and posed a significant challenge for MobiFone on its journey to conquer new milestones.

Based on 5 main pillars: Customers - Products - Technology - Operations - Capacity, MobiFone sets specific goals for itself until 2025 to "maintain telecommunications - Attack new spaces", develop Digital Infrastructure - Digital Platform/Solutions - Digital Content business.

Building an increasingly complete and powerful MobiFone digital ecosystem, taking the lead in technology to meet and create the needs of the digital economy and digital life of customers, providing a variety of services, meeting the increasingly diverse needs of customers, creating platforms and tools to help customers have more space to be creative.

In addition, the complete ecosystem will help save time, costs, limit negative impacts, improve operational efficiency for businesses; at the same time, bring convenience to contribute to improving customer experience, helping to improve life.

On the path to transforming from a traditional telecommunications enterprise to a digital enterprise, MobiFone always sets appropriate medium and long-term goals for each stage: implementing medium-term plans, model projects, restructuring in all aspects: organization, human resources, administration; continuing to implement deep and wide digital transformation, creating momentum for the development of business - technical and investment fields.

MobiFone launches youth brand for GenZ

At the event, MobiFone also launched a new youth brand called Saymee. This is a special mark of its 30th birthday, marking a strong transformation, demonstrating MobiFone's "creativity, innovation" - "not retreating" and "understanding" in the market.

As a pioneering network for young people, Saymee was created by GenZ and exclusively for GenZ. With the spirit of an explorer, Saymee wishes to convey the strong spirit of a network that dares to break the limits, surpass itself, and is ready to bring different experiences to young people.

Speaking at the celebration, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hien, Chairman of the Board of Members of MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation, emotionally shared: “ On the 30-year journey of building and developing the MobiFone brand, MobiFone has always shown its pioneering role in the market by offering new solutions to customers and taking the lead in the market.

For me, the keyword for 2023 is innovation, not just doing something new but innovation in every field, every job, in both thinking and action. For a telecommunications company, 30 years is maturity.
