The national spirit and aspiration that created the power of the waterfall 79 years ago is urging the entire people to reach out and quickly take steps to bring Vietnam to stand among the ranks of developed countries by 2045.

Today, September 2, the Vietnamese people proudly celebrate the 79th anniversary of National Day. The further we go in the flow of history, the more each Vietnamese person understands the sacred meaning of a country with complete sovereignty attached to a political regime objectively chosen by history.
And proud of the aspiration for “Independence” 79 years ago that blossomed into “Freedom-Happiness,” each person increasingly nurtures the desire to fulfill the nation’s deep and burning aspiration. That is to build a strong country .
Looking back 79 years, our people were oppressed under the rule of colonial and feudal forces. Patriotic movements at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, though powerful, all failed. The people lived in abject poverty, the consequences of the 1945 famine killed over two million people, and 90% of the population was illiterate.
Only under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, the entire nation's forces were gathered and courageously stood up, creating a waterfall of strength.
That power washed away the humiliation of over 80 years of French colonial rule, swept away the Japanese fascists from the country, and brought down the feudal regime.
That power revived the entire nation, bringing new life and vitality to countless people who had recently been enslaved.
Responding to the aspirations of the entire nation, on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly declaring to the world a new nation - the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Since that important milestone, the country has added to its heroic tradition with glorious feats of arms in the struggle for national liberation, national unification, and national construction and defense.
And the success of the Doi Moi cause initiated by our Party in 1986 has brought Vietnam into the top 40 leading economies, with a trade scale in the top 20 countries in the world, an important link in 16 free trade agreements connecting with 60 key economies in the region and globally.
From an isolated country, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries in the world, has Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Partnership with 30 countries, including all permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, major countries and is an active member of over 70 regional and international organizations.

Celebrating National Day, with a deeper understanding of the meaning, value, and achievements of Independence, every Vietnamese person is filled with an even more fervent aspiration to "successfully build a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic, and prosperous Vietnam, making a worthy contribution to the world revolutionary cause," as envisioned by President Ho Chi Minh.
But looking back and looking around, one can feel that the journey to bring the country "on par with the world powers" is an "extremely large, complicated and difficult" undertaking.
Because economic size is not everything. A developed country needs to achieve economic criteria such as per capita income, gross domestic product, level of industrialization, average standard of living and the amount of technological and non-economic infrastructure such as human development index (HDI), an index that assesses the level of education, literacy and health of the population.
The path to bringing the country "on par with the world powers" is also a journey of self-elimination, self-struggle to overcome and overcome internal weaknesses.
After 79 years since the founding of the nation and 55 years of implementing President Ho Chi Minh's Testament, we have achieved many important accomplishments, but there are still many things we have not yet fulfilled as Uncle Ho instructed. Among these are bureaucracy, detachment from the masses, and actions contrary to the interests of the people by a segment of cadres and Party members, which are affecting the prestige and weakening the strength of the Party.
Furthermore, problems within the ranks of cadres and Party members, and major corruption and economic cases involving high-ranking officials, continue to warn of the risk of erosion and skepticism among the people regarding the Party's goals and ideals, threatening the survival of the Party, the State, and the regime. Therefore, the fight against corruption and negative practices is being intensified by the Party and the State alongside efforts to develop the economy and society.
Facing the truth squarely, recognizing the difficulties and limitations, is not about belittling the achievements the country has made over the past 79 years since September 2, 1945. Courageously acknowledging weaknesses and resolutely overcoming shortcomings is also essential for the country's steady progress. This is also an extremely important foundation for building trust in the Party and the State, so that the people trust, love, and wholeheartedly build and protect the Party, the State, and the regime.
The national spirit and aspiration that created the power of the waterfall 79 years ago is urging the entire people to reach out and quickly take steps to bring Vietnam to stand among the ranks of developed countries by 2045. It is predicted that this will be a journey full of bitterness and sweetness.
But, “with the right direction, strong development aspirations and high political determination, our country will certainly create a new development miracle for a prosperous and happy Vietnam, moving forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, successfully realizing the wishes of the great President Ho Chi Minh and the aspirations of our entire nation” as our Party set out at the 13th National Congress./.
