Việt NamViệt Nam20/06/2024

As the founder and teacher of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism, President Ho Chi Minh taught: "The mission of a journalist is important and glorious. To fulfill that mission, one must strive to study politics , improve one's ideology, stand firmly on the proletarian class's position, improve one's cultural level, and delve deeply into one's profession." Realizing Uncle Ho's teachings, every journalist today always keeps "bright eyes, pure heart, sharp pen"; constantly cultivates political mettle, trains moral qualities, professionalism, and carries out and promotes the noble mission of a journalist in the 4.0 era.

"Serve the interests of the Party, the Fatherland, and the people"

During his life of revolutionary activities, President Ho Chi Minh wrote and published over 2,000 articles in many languages, many genres, and many pen names. He considered writing and journalism as “revolutionary work” to “serve the Fatherland”, “serve the people”, “serve the class and humanity”.

President Ho Chi Minh pointed out: “The press is a front”, “The pen is a sharp weapon, the article is a revolutionary proclamation”. Therefore, “press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers. The pen and the paper are their sharp weapons”. He required the team of journalists “to have a firm political stance. Politics must be the master. If the political line is correct, then other things will be correct. Therefore, our press agencies must have a correct political line”. He advised journalists to ask themselves the questions before picking up the pen: “What is the purpose of writing?”, “What to write? For whom? How to write?”.

Deeply aware of the role, function and mission of the revolutionary press in social life, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: "The communist press has the task of making our soldiers understand the colonial issue, awakening the sympathy and support of the working masses in colonial countries, and enlisting them to participate in the cause of communism". The revolutionary press has no other interests, no other purpose than to serve the interests of the Party, the Fatherland and the people. Our revolutionary press is the press of the working class and the masses of working people. Therefore, he advised: "Our press must serve the working people, serve socialism, serve the struggle to unify the country, and for world peace".

President Ho Chi Minh instructed: "Journalists are also revolutionary soldiers. The pen and the paper are their sharp weapons"; "For us journalists, the pen is a sharp weapon, the article is a revolutionary proclamation to mobilize the masses to unite and fight against old and new colonialism, against imperialism..., for national independence, social progress and world peace". President Ho advised journalists: "If you write articles that the masses understand, the masses love to read, the masses praise, then you are making progress. On the contrary, you are not successful". He emphasized: "Write to highlight the good things of our people, our soldiers, our cadres, our friends. At the same time, to criticize our shortcomings, the cadres, the people, the soldiers". The form of expression, the method of presentation, the structure of journalistic works must be clear, easy to understand and avoid being fussy. He advised: "Write simply, easily understood, and practically. So that every compatriot and soldier can read, understand, remember, and do."

Through these issues, many efforts and positive contributions were made to help the Provincial Party Committee direct the movement, propagate and mobilize, disseminate and guide all levels, sectors and people in the province to implement the Party's policies, directives and resolutions of the Provincial Party Committee. Especially the task of consolidating cooperatives and developing agricultural production, actively contributing to educating and improving the political and ideological level of cadres, party members and people in the province. The Resolution clearly states: The provincial Party newspaper is called “Nam Dinh”, published three times a week, and the Provincial Party Executive Committee is assigned to directly direct the improvement of content and form to enhance the ideological, mass, combative and truthful nature of the Party newspaper. Further promote the struggle for criticism and self-criticism in the provincial Party newspaper. All levels, sectors, and cadres in the Party and outside the Party need to clearly recognize the practical benefits of the people's criticism in the newspaper, which is to strengthen solidarity and unanimity within the Party and the people, tighten the relationship between the Party and the masses, and have the right attitude, welcome that criticism, and must not have incorrect thoughts and actions towards the critic. The criticized individuals and agencies must publicly express their sincere attitude of accepting criticism and the results of correction in the newspaper; if the criticism content has any aspects and details that need to be presented further, they must openly and honestly state them in the newspaper. On the other hand, we must further strengthen the struggle on the public opinion front against the enemy's anti-propaganda arguments, plots and sabotage activities against the revolution, in accordance with the functions of the proletarian press.

Strengthen the improvement of the distribution and promote the organization of reading the provincial Party newspaper, ensuring that all cadres, party members of cooperatives, enterprises, production teams and groups and people of all walks of life in the province regularly buy and read the newspaper to find the Party's necessary instructions for their work.
