Without Atlas, candidates are still confident about the Geography exam
In previous years, candidates were still allowed to use the Vietnam Geography Atlas (without any marking or writing) during the Geography exam and the Social Science exam. For many students, this is considered a powerful support tool to help them do this exam.
In addition to the questions that require the use of an Atlas to answer, many students also apply and combine data on natural conditions, terrain, population, etc. on maps in the Atlas to find more information for their assignments.
However, this year, according to the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training , candidates are not allowed to bring the Geography Atlas into the exam room in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. However, many students are still very confident after completing the Geography exam.
Coming out of Chu Van An Secondary School, candidate Hoang Chau Huyen Anh (student of Dong Do High School) expressed her comfort after completing the last two subjects of the exam.
"The Geography exam closely follows the core knowledge of grade 12. Because I reviewed the curriculum carefully in class, this test was suitable for me. Many questions were in the form of recognition, only the true-false part was a bit tricky, requiring candidates to read the test carefully," candidate Hoang Chau Huyen Anh told reporters.
According to Huyen Anh, with the true-false question type, identifying the main keywords of the question and analyzing the given answers is very important to avoid mistakes while doing the test.
Taking the exam at Chu Van An Secondary School, candidate Duong Nguyen Hoang Minh (student of Tay Ho District VocationalEducation and Continuing Education Center) estimated that his Geography exam would get a good score.
"Perhaps, for me, Geography seems to be the easiest subject. Although I feel a bit regretful, I am still very excited to have completed all 4 subjects," Hoang Minh expressed.
Leaving the exam room with a bright smile, candidate Le Hai Long (student of Hanoi Industrial Vocational College) said that, in general, the exam questions for social science subjects this year were closely related to real-life issues and did not deviate from the content of textbooks.
"With Geography, even though I can't hold an Atlas in the exam room, as long as I remember the distribution of economic sectors and resources, and apply it to the natural conditions of the regions, I can still think of the answer," added contestant Hai Long.
Many contents about President Ho Chi Minh are included in the History exam.
From President Ho Chi Minh's "Call for National Resistance" to author Le Mau Han's "National Strength of the Vietnamese Revolution in the Light of Ho Chi Minh's Thought" are all used as materials in the History exam, High School Graduation Exam in 2025.
According to candidate Le Hai Long, in his exam code, many of the questions he encountered revolved around the period of resistance against France and the US and the country's renovation (from 1986 to present). In particular, there were many questions about the path to national salvation, as well as the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh included in the exam.
"I found this year's History exam very interesting and current. 50 minutes is just enough time for candidates to complete the questions and have some extra time to review their work," Hai Long shared.
Choosing two subjects, History and Geography, for the optional exam, candidate Tran Khanh My (student of Chu Van An High School) commented that the History exam had a fairly clear level of differentiation.
"Similar to Geography, the most difficult part of the History test is also the type of question that determines true or false. To do well on this test, memorizing events is not enough. We need to understand and know how to apply interdisciplinary knowledge gathered from many other fields to solve even advanced questions," said candidate Khanh My.
After completing the high school graduation exam, Khanh My breathed a sigh of relief. She said she did quite well in all four subjects.
"Being able to choose 2 out of 8 subjects, in addition to Math and Literature which are compulsory, has helped us reduce pressure, reduce the amount of general knowledge and focus on the main subjects for university admission," added candidate Tran Khanh My.
History is the subject chosen by most candidates.
Information from the Ministry of Education and Training on the number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam by subject announced at the end of April shows that in addition to Math and Literature, which are two compulsory subjects, candidates tend to choose subjects in the social sciences.
Accordingly, History is the subject chosen by most candidates with nearly 500 thousand people. Next is Geography with more than 494 thousand people, English with nearly 359 thousand people and Physics with more than 354 thousand people. The remaining subjects are all under 250 thousand people.
