Up to this point, preparations for the 10th grade high school entrance exam at 35 examination councils have been completed, aiming to organize the exam safely, seriously, objectively and in accordance with regulations.
The pressure of the race to enter grade 10
In recent days, the review atmosphere at grade 9, Ban Lau Secondary School, Muong Khuong district has been very urgent.
Nong Thi Bich Thao, a 9A student, shared: I am determined to pass the entrance exam to the Biology class at Lao Cai Specialized High School. This is one of the schools with a high competition rate, so in order to master the knowledge, in addition to the time spent reviewing in class, I also participate in group study, regularly exchange and discuss the lesson content with my friends. During the days of intensive review, I studied more than 10 hours a day, from 7am to 11pm.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, a Math teacher at Ban Lau Secondary School, Muong Khuong District, said: Because this is an important exam, in addition to strengthening knowledge review and helping students fill in the gaps, we also increase psychological support, understand their thoughts and wishes, and are ready to answer questions, helping them reduce anxiety and stress before the exam.
According to the school's Board of Directors, in the 2023-2024 school year, Ban Lau Secondary School has 80 grade 9 students, and the survey results to date have reached 90% of students taking the 10th grade entrance exam after graduation. To prepare for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, the school has proactively implemented review work since the beginning of the school year. The school also coordinated with Muong Khuong District High School No. 2 to guide review and practice test-taking skills for grade 9 students in three subjects: Math, Literature and English. Through organizing practice tests for students, teachers at Muong Khuong High School No. 2 have discovered the difficulties, limitations, and common mistakes of students, thereby providing solutions to overcome them; focusing on strengthening students' test-taking skills.
At Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School, Lao Cai City, 9th grade students are provided with full knowledge of each subject and supplemented with new knowledge. Along with the initiative of teachers, students are also making efforts and actively arranging their review time reasonably and effectively.
Nguyen Nhat Tien, a 9E student at Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School in Lao Cai City, wishes to take the entrance exam to Lao Cai City High School No. 1. "I'm not very confident because the number of candidates taking the exam this year is quite large, but I will try my best," Tien said.
Having prepared her child for the exam for a long time, Ms. Do Hue , Kim Tan ward, Lao Cai city, could not help but feel worried and restless: Even though my child has other plans, I still want my child to pass the exam to Lao Cai city's No. 1 High School.
All set
For this year’s 10th grade entrance exam, Lao Cai province has 35 examination councils. The schools selected to host the examination councils were surveyed by the Department of Education and Training regarding their facilities to facilitate exam candidates.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training: The 10th grade entrance exam in 2024 has a total of 10,312 candidates (an increase of 744 candidates compared to the previous school year). Of which: 155 candidates requested direct admission, 10,157 candidates participated in the exam. The enrollment quota for high schools (subjects of the exam) is 9,200, an increase of 723 quotas compared to the previous school year to meet the learning needs of the people and ensure the province's streaming rate. Lao Cai Specialized High School has the largest number of candidates with 612 candidates. Basically, the increase in the number of students compared to the previous school year does not greatly affect the streaming of students after graduating from junior high school to continue studying at high school.
In order to successfully enroll students in grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year in a safe, honest, objective, and fair manner, the Department of Education and Training has developed and piloted online enrollment registration for grade 10 high school through the Primary Admissions Software System. Initial results show that the implementation of the enrollment software solution has ensured publicity and transparency in enrollment registration, creating favorable conditions for students and parents, helping management agencies have timely information to direct schools to increase student participation in enrollment registration. Through the system, 10,312/14,406 (71.58%) of junior high school graduates registered to continue studying in high school.
Mr. Dung also affirmed: The Department has directed localities to support and create the best conditions for students to register and participate in the entrance exam; absolutely not forcing students with average or weak academic performance not to participate in the entrance exam to grade 10 of high school.
The Department has promptly issued a document with full and detailed instructions on organizing the exam, especially stipulating the number of candidates registering for the exam right from the registration stage, ensuring objectivity and capacity to choose suitable schools; organized an online training session with 300 connecting points, guiding exam registration for leaders, officers, teachers in charge and secondary school students, answering questions in organizing the exam and registration.
In addition, the Department also advised on a document to coordinate with the provincial police and local police to send officers to ensure security and safety for the exam, from the stage of creating exam questions to the stage of marking exams; coordinate with the electricity sector to ensure stable power supply during the exam. Personnel participating in the stages of organizing the exam are carefully selected from core teachers and excellent teachers of high schools across the province, ensuring sufficient conditions and standards to participate in the exam, especially the stage of creating exam questions; proactively prepare all conditions regarding facilities and publications for the exam...
With careful preparation of facilities, specific plans for the exam, along with the active review of teachers and students in the province in the past time, we believe that this year's public high school entrance exam will take place seriously, safely, and achieve high results.
