Get rich from raising Egyptian super egg chickens

Việt NamViệt Nam12/08/2023

As a farmer who dares to think and act, Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoan (born in 1956) in Dai Ang village, Ninh Hoa commune (Hoa Lu district) has turned an ineffective rice-growing land into a super-egg Egyptian chicken farm, generating hundreds of millions of VND in revenue per year.

Previously, Mr. Ngoan's family did a small household electrical appliance business in the commune, but the economic efficiency was not high. Struggling to find a new direction for development, he realized that raising Egyptian super egg chickens had a lot of potential while his family also had an area of land that had not been effectively exploited.

Therefore, in 2017, Mr. Ngoan boldly invested 500 million VND to improve the land and build a farm to raise white-feathered Egyptian chickens on an area of 400 square meters. "This is a breed of chicken with high egg-laying productivity, good resistance and disease resistance. Compared to other types of chicken eggs, Egyptian chicken eggs have a high yolk ratio and quality, and are highly nutritious," Mr. Ngoan shared some advantages of this breed of chicken.

During the first 2 years due to lack of experience, his farm encountered many difficulties, at times having to destroy a large number of laying hens. However, he was not discouraged, calmly investigated the cause and found a solution. He consulted and learned from the experience of models in the commune and in the province.

After 6 years of development, Mr. Ngoan has drawn some experience in the process of raising egg-laying chickens. According to him, there are 3 factors that farmers need to pay attention to: breed selection, care process and barn design. Mr. Ngoan's chicken breeds are imported from reputable companies in Hanoi , have been raised for about 4 months and are starting to enter the reproductive period.

The farm owner pays great attention to the care process, his chickens are fully vaccinated regularly. Every month, he coordinates with the veterinary unit to take samples of eggs and water sources to check the quality, thereby adjusting the care regimen and preventing diseases in a timely manner, ensuring that the chickens and egg quality are always at the best level.

For the barn system, he designed it to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In addition, instead of lining the barn with rice husks as usual, Mr. Ngoan used bran composted with probiotics. Thanks to that, all the chicken manure is decomposed by bacteria, reducing the labor cost of cleaning the barn.

Thanks to the application of biosafety farming processes, his chickens develop healthily, grow quickly, and produce high productivity. Currently, with 3,000 egg-laying chickens, Mr. Ngoan collects an average of 2,100 - 2,200 eggs per day. Currently, the selling price of Egyptian chicken eggs is 2,200 - 2,500 VND/egg. His family's chicken egg consumption market is mainly the market system in Hoa Lu district and Ninh Binh city.

In addition to the income from eggs, after a year of laying hens, farmers can sell them as meat chickens. Mr. Ngoan said: "If well cared for and managed, from the time the hens lay their first eggs until about 12-15 months, they will be culled to raise a new batch to ensure egg quality. The discarded chickens are sold to businesses at a price of 55,000 VND - 60,000 VND/kg."

Mr. Ngoan's family's chicken farming model is carefully invested in and regularly vaccinated.

Having succeeded in raising Egyptian chickens to lay eggs, Mr. Ngoan enthusiastically supports and shares his experience with those who want to learn. "To develop a sustainable farm, it requires diligence, careful investment and research, especially not being afraid of failure, and being determined to the end, only then will it succeed. Two years ago, the chickens got sick and had to be destroyed by thousands. Although I was very sad, I told myself not to be discouraged and determined to start over," said Mr. Ngoan. In the coming time, he will expand the scale and further improve the quality of products to serve and meet market demand.

Commenting on Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoan's model, Comrade Tong Thi Tuyet, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ninh Hoa Commune, shared: "Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoan is one of two members of the commune who successfully developed the model of raising Egyptian chickens to lay eggs. He is a typical example of a farmer, with a sharp mind in finding new directions for family economic development and always actively sharing his accumulated experiences and knowledge with other farmer members.

During the process of building the model, the Commune Farmers' Association had many solutions to accompany and support Mr. Ngoan such as accessing loans from the Social Policy Bank, participating in training courses, technical support, introducing and promoting products, etc. We hope to be able to replicate the model in the area to help farmers develop the economy and sustainably reduce poverty."
