Ho Chi Minh City workshop on urban agriculture: Innovation for sustainable development in the heart of the megacity

(HTV) – The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has just organized a workshop on "Urban agriculture - the future of agriculture in the heart of the city, innovation for sustainable development" to review the current situation, analyze bottlenecks and propose a new development model for the agricultural sector in the context of the City after the merger.

Experts attending the workshop emphasized that urban agriculture should be considered a strategic component in the development of Ho Chi Minh City .

Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh said that rapid urbanization, labor shortages and ecosystem degradation are major challenges. "For Ho Chi Minh City , the requirement for double-digit economic development and new rural development forces the agricultural sector to shift to a high value-added - technology - circular - sustainable model," Mr. Thanh emphasized.

Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh spoke emphasizing the strategic role of agriculture in the megacity.

The workshop also focused on discussing urban agricultural models that apply high technology, are circular and sustainable, as a foundation for adjusting the Agricultural Development Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050. The results from the workshop will be an important scientific basis for planning and policy making, creating a driving force for breakthrough development for Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time.
