Developing fruit trees on sloping land, OHAYO Cooperative, Binh Minh sub-area, Co Noi commune, Mai Son district has chosen to plant custard apple trees. Up to now, the custard apple area has developed well, ensuring stable output and high income.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Bang, Director of the Cooperative, said: OHAYO Cooperative was established in October 2021, with 22 members, growing 55 hectares of custard apples and strawberries. Of which, 30 hectares of custard apples have been harvested, mainly varieties: Taiwanese custard apples, Thai custard apples, durian custard apples, pineapple custard apples and traditional custard apples. The average yield is 20 tons/ha, the total output is more than 600 tons/year, and the revenue is over 30 billion VND.

Visiting the custard apple hill of more than 4 hectares of Ms. Ngo Thi Ha's family, Binh Minh sub-area, Co Noi commune, which is mainly growing Taiwanese custard apples mixed with durian, of which 2.5 hectares have been harvested. Ms. Ha excitedly said: Previously, I had no experience growing custard apples, so the fruit yield was low and often affected by pests and diseases. Since joining the OHAYO Cooperative, I have been guided by district and commune officials and members on techniques, shared experiences in pruning, proper fertilization and drip irrigation techniques, and now the custard apple hill is growing well. In the last custard apple crop, my family harvested 40 tons of fruit, with a revenue of 2.5 billion VND.

Continue to visit the custard apple hill of Ms. Pham Huyen Trang, the member with the largest custard apple acreage in the OHAYO Cooperative. Ms. Trang shared: Since joining the cooperative, I have received technical support from care, pest control according to the schedule, to harvesting and preserving the product. Thanks to that, the quality of custard apples has improved significantly, the output is stable, and the selling price is higher. With 9 hectares of Thai custard apples in harvest, this year it is expected to harvest nearly 200 tons of fruit.

The custard apple growing area of ​​OHAYO Cooperative is located in Co Noi commune and Hat Lot town, with two harvests per year: early-ripening custard apples from the beginning of the sixth lunar month, and main-season custard apples from mid-July to March of the following year. The entire custard apple growing area of ​​the Cooperative is recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a high-tech application area; the products are VietGAP certified, trusted by consumers, and consumed mainly at wholesale markets and supermarkets in major cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa.

Currently, Co Noi commune has 2,100 hectares of fruit trees, including 762 hectares of custard apples. There are 28 agricultural cooperatives operating in the area, contributing to increasing income for members, creating jobs for rural workers and promoting sustainable economic development. Mr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, commented: OHAYO Cooperative is a typical model thanks to the application of advanced techniques in planting and caring for custard apple trees, helping to increase productivity, quality and income for farmers. In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote and encourage households to replicate the production model associated with chain linkage and product consumption.

To enhance the prestige and value of products, OHAYO Cooperative promotes the application of high technology in planting and caring for custard apple trees. At the same time, the Cooperative actively cooperates with other custard apple growing cooperatives to build a stable market in terms of design, quality, and price, contributing to increasing income for members in the district.
