These days, the Pham Quynh orchid production facility is bustling with activity as it welcomes visitors to its gardens, takes orders, packs flowers, and ships them to customers. Spanning approximately 7000 m² , the facility currently has four orchid gardens with around 100,000 plants to serve the market for this year's Lunar New Year.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, after a period of leaving farming, he started implementing a model for breeding and growing Phalaenopsis orchids around 2015-2016. Before implementing the model, he spent time studying tissue culture techniques at the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Agriculture ; after graduating, he did an internship in Da Lat...

With the knowledge he had acquired and the experience he had accumulated, upon returning to his hometown, he invested in building a laboratory and a greenhouse system for propagating (using tissue culture methods) and growing Phalaenopsis orchids on a scale of over 1000 m² .
Initially, he also paid a high price for his failures. However, with strong determination, Hung gradually identified the strengths and weaknesses in the process of breeding and growing flowers in order to overcome them and gain more experience.

Throughout the process, he regularly interacted with and learned additional techniques and experiences from orchid growers both domestically and internationally. As a result, the model gradually overcame initial difficulties and became increasingly effective.
According to Mr. Hung, Phalaenopsis orchids are "fussy" plants that prefer cool environments. Therefore, the biggest challenge when producing this type of flower in the North is ensuring the right temperature, light, and humidity for the flowers to grow and develop well.

To ensure the orchids grow and thrive, the entire production process at the orchid garden applies advanced agricultural technology. The greenhouses are designed according to international standards, not only protecting against sun and rain but also blocking UV rays, providing insulation, and equipped with temperature control systems, ventilation fans, and temperature sensors… creating an ideal growing environment year-round, regardless of the outside weather.

From planting to maturity, it takes approximately 24-36 months. Each growth and development stage requires different management of humidity, light, and temperature. Therefore, even when grown in greenhouses or net houses, growers still need to be very meticulous and highly skilled. To ensure flower quality (buds and flowers bloom evenly, large, healthy blooms, no defects in the stem, leaves, or flowers), seed selection is also crucial.
Besides some native flower varieties such as white, red, and spotted white flowers, Mr. Hung's facility imports several new flower varieties from other countries. According to statistics, the facility currently has 10-15 different flower varieties, meeting the increasingly diverse needs of the market.

Thanks to the consistently high quality of his flowers, Mr. Hung's orchid nursery is becoming increasingly well-known to customers. His market has expanded, from the city to provinces such as Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, and Bac Ninh …
Currently, to meet the demand for the 2026 Lunar New Year, the business is hiring more people to arrange and package flowers, potentially up to 50-60 people during peak periods. "Next week, we'll focus on packaging and shipping to retail outlets. We'll be out of stock by around the 25th-27th of the twelfth lunar month," Mr. Hung informed.

Mr. Hung added that the demand for Phalaenopsis orchids in the market is very high. Therefore, in the coming time, the facility will focus on expanding the scale of production, from supplying young plants, medium-sized plants, to mature plants to the market.
According to information from the An Hai Ward People's Committee, the Pham Quynh orchid production facility is one of the exemplary production models in the locality. The success of this model also opens up many prospects for the development of high-tech agriculture in the area, given the shrinking area of traditional agricultural production due to rapid urbanization.

The story of Pham Quynh's orchid production facility shows that, despite harsh weather conditions, when farmers boldly apply science and technology and invest systematically, agriculture can absolutely become a high-income sector.
