On March 16 in Lao Cai, Y Ty Border Guard Station, Lao Cai Provincial Border Guard launched a godmother model for ethnic minority children in difficult circumstances in border areas.
The program was implemented by the Party Committee of Y Ty Border Guard Station, in coordination with the People's Committees of Y Ty and A Lu communes (Bat Xat district) and philanthropists from many localities across the country.

At the launching ceremony, 14 “godmothers” from Nghe An, Hung Yen, Bac Giang and Hanoi adopted 15 ethnic minority students with especially difficult circumstances in Y Ty and A Lu communes. The children, aged 7 to 11, were all orphans of one parent, and some were even orphans of both.
Each month, each "mother" will support 500,000 VND for her "child" for 5 years, from 2024 to 2029. Y Ty Border Guard Station will coordinate with local authorities to monitor, encourage and give support money to the children.
The "Godmother" model has profound humanistic meaning, demonstrating the sense of responsibility of all levels, sectors, organizations and the community to join hands for poor children in the border areas. The program not only gives the children another mother, but also a warm family, helping their dreams fly high.
