On July 20, Dr. Nguyen Van Tien, Head of the Department of Gynecological Surgery, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, shared that doctors here had just undergone a nerve-wracking surgery to find a way to save the life of a patient with a huge ovarian tumor.
Mrs. NTB's abdomen was distended, causing pressure and discomfort. (Photo provided by the doctor).
The surgical team encountered many difficulties during the surgery because the large tumor was stuck to the abdominal wall and internal organs. The patient was given 1/2 liter of fresh blood because the tumor was prone to bleeding. After the surgery, the doctors were able to remove an ovarian tumor weighing up to 15 kg. It is expected that the patient will receive chemotherapy after that, when the pathology results confirm that it is ovarian cancer.
Accordingly, the patient is Mrs. NTB (63 years old, Tien Giang province). About a year ago, Mrs. B. discovered that her belly was getting bigger and bigger, however, Mrs. B. said that because of difficult circumstances, she did not go to the doctor but only went to get some unknown herbal medicine to drink. The more herbal medicine she took, the bigger her belly got over time, until she could no longer bear it and went to the local hospital for a check-up.

When the "oversized" tumor was discovered, Mrs. B. was transferred to a higher level by doctors. At the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, through examination and paraclinical tests, doctors discovered that Mrs. B.'s tumor occupied the entire abdomen up to the sternum, measuring over 40cm. Mrs. B. was scheduled for emergency surgery to save her life, with a pre-operative diagnosis of large ovarian cancer.
Doctors say that ovarian tumors are a common disease, most of which are benign, but if they are malignant, they can be life-threatening. Ovarian tumors often have no symptoms because they are located deep in the pelvic area, so when the patient discovers it, the tumor is often large.
Doctors advise that currently, there is no medical research that proves that herbal medicine can cure cancer. Therefore, patients are advised to be persistent and trust the regimen of medical specialists, absolutely should not use herbal remedies of unknown origin, missing the golden stage of treatment.
