Doctors from Ho Chi Minh City, on rotational assignments in Con Dao, have successfully performed two laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgeries on two female patients. Both cases were discussed online with Dr. Nguyen Phuc Minh, Head of the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department at Binh Dan Hospital.
These were the first scheduled surgeries performed at the Con Dao Special Zone Military-Civilian Medical Center, opening up a new direction for the center's surgical specialty.
Two cases were handled by a team of doctors from various hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City. Both patients had a history of abdominal surgery, were diagnosed with gallstones, and were indicated for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Thanks to careful consultation and preparation, both surgeries were performed safely without complications, with an average surgery time of 80 minutes, and the patients recovered well.
During the procedure, the anesthesiologists consulted online with experts from Binh Dan Hospital and received assistance with instruments for difficult intubation to ensure anesthesia safety.
In the near future, doctors from Binh Dan Hospital will assist the Con Dao Special Zone Military-Civilian Medical Center in standardizing anesthesia procedures and preparing for all possible scenarios during surgery. This will gradually improve the quality of anesthesia and resuscitation at the local medical center, bringing it up to the same level as Binh Dan Hospital.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health acknowledges and highly appreciates the efforts of the second group of doctors who are rotating their duties in Con Dao, along with the remote professional guidance from the leadership and surgical and anesthesia experts of Binh Dan Hospital.
Scheduled surgery (also known as planned surgery) is a technical term in hospital management and surgical management used to distinguish it from emergency surgery, which is usually only performed in hospitals with surgical departments.
