In the opening match of the AVC Nations Cup on the evening of June 7, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team easily won 3-0 against Hong Kong.

Facing an opponent that was not rated too highly, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet did not need to use his strongest lineup to still have an overwhelming match.

The home team's next opponent will be Chinese Taipei. This is a very different problem than Hong Kong.

In theory, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is considered to be superior as they have won this tournament (formerly called the AVC Challenge Cup) twice in a row.

However, Chinese Taipei showed a positive face after the opening match when they defeated Australia 3-0. The result helped them significantly increase their ranking in the world rankings, from 45th to 42nd. Currently, they are only 10 places behind the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.

The gap between the two teams is still quite far, but that does not mean the home team can be subjective.

Chinese Taipei brings a young squad to the AVC Nations Cup 2025, with the oldest player being captain Liao Yi Jen born in 1997. The rest of the players were mostly born in 2000 or later, possessing strength, agility and a desire to compete.

On the contrary, the Vietnamese team is a team with a lot of experience. Many players have won the AVC Challenge Cup such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Doan Thi Lam Oanh... That is the reason why they continue to be candidates for the championship this year.

Certainly the competition with Chinese Taipei will not be as easy as the previous one with Hong Kong. However, victory can still come if the Vietnamese athletes compete to their full potential and form.

The match between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and Chinese Taipei will take place at 8:00 p.m. on June 8 and will be broadcast live on OnSports platforms.
