The victory of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team over Thailand was unexpectedly mentioned by FIVB even though many days had passed - Photo: ASIAN VOLLEYBALL
Specifically, the Volleyball World website operated by FIVB posted an article about SEA V.League - the Southeast Asian Volleyball Championship. This article gave many compliments to the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, when they won the championship for the first time.
It is worth mentioning that the SEA V.League ended… last week. The echoes of the great battle between Vietnam and Thailand are still there, but the topicality is no longer there. Therefore, it is unclear why FIVB only now published an article about this tournament.
FIVB even put a headline that sounded like a news report: "Thailand and Vietnam create fiery clashes up to 5 sets before the World Championship".
Below, the article lists both confrontations between Vietnam and Thailand in the first and second stages of the SEA V.League. Those were matches that lasted 5 intense sets.
In stage 1, Thailand was the winning team. Then in stage 2, Vietnam overthrew the opponent after losing 2 sets first.
In the article about the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, FIVB pointed out: "Another fierce battle to decide the match. Vietnam rose from a 2-set deficit to come back to win 3-2, winning the first gold medal in the history of the SEA V.League".
The International Volleyball Federation also mentioned that Bich Tuyen was chosen as the best athlete (MVP) of stage 2.
In the past few days, FIVB has been the center of attention for Vietnamese volleyball fans. The reason is that at the ongoing U21 Women's Volleyball World Cup, this organization announced that the U21 Vietnam team used an ineligible athlete. Therefore, FIVB canceled all results of the U21 Vietnam matches that involved that athlete.
This causes the Southeast Asian team, which had a ticket to the round of 16, to now only be able to participate in the ranking round from 17 to 24.
Many Vietnamese volleyball fans were upset with this decision. Especially when FIVB did not clearly state who was at fault, and what the reason for the invalidity was. Therefore, there is suspicion that the article about SEA V.League was intended to appease Vietnamese fans.
However, it is also necessary to be objective that this may just be a promotion for the upcoming 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup, which Thailand will host. Meanwhile, Vietnamese women's volleyball will also be participating for the first time in history.
Therefore, FIVB may want to attract more media and public attention to the tournament through this article.
