Professor John Stauffer said that aesthetics and music were the two things that impressed him most when translating the Vietnamese work Truyen Kieu.

At the exchange, Professor John Stauffer affirmed that artificial intelligence (AI) has the ability to translate quite quickly and accurately. However, AI cannot replace the role of translators in translating literary and poetic works, especially Vietnamese works.

"We give specific commands for AI to do exactly as we want, but the translation will certainly lack soul, musicality, aesthetics and poetic qualities," said Professor John Stauffer.

According to Professor John Stauffer, young people should read The Tale of Kieu at least once to understand the values of life, to be more profound and live more emotionally.

In his message to young Vietnamese writers and poets, Professor John Stauffer advises to be confident in yourself. Don’t give up when a work is published but not well received by many people. Learn to take in the smallest compliments and comments to improve. Persistence is the key to success.

After the exchange, many students excitedly said that they understood the translation journey of a classic literary work, and felt the vitality of Vietnamese literature in the flow of international integration. From there, they loved and wanted to develop more professions that carried the breath of Vietnamese culture.
