Reporter (PV): Since July 1, localities have implemented a two-tier government model. What opportunities and challenges does this bring to the tourism industry, sir?
Comrade Nguyen Trung Khanh: The merger of provinces and cities creates a larger space for tourism development, with higher connectivity, creating conditions for localities to restructure their tourism development strategies, develop inter-regional tours and innovate products. This will be an opportunity to develop tourism in a synchronous manner with unique and novel experiences, creating an important turning point to promote sustainable development of Vietnamese tourism, enhancing its position on the world tourism map.

However, the merger of provinces and cities also poses some challenges, especially in destination management, planning, and tourism infrastructure development. Ensuring security, order, environmental sanitation, and preserving tourist landscapes... requires close coordination between commune-level authorities and proactive coordination from provincial tourism agencies. After the merger, creating a common and unified tourism brand is not an easy task because each region has different strengths and tourism products. Combining and developing a common brand requires a clear strategy and close coordination between relevant parties.
To support localities, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has consulted with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to issue a document guiding the review, adjustment and identification of administrative units with relics recognized and ranked as world cultural and natural heritages, special national historical heritages of administrative units to be rearranged and reorganized... In the coming time, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will continue to coordinate with localities to synchronously deploy solutions with the goal of ensuring tourism activities are implemented seamlessly, smoothly and in the right direction.
PV: Vietnam's tourism industry is aiming to become a spearhead economic sector with sustainable development. So, in your opinion, what are the key factors to realizing that goal in the new period?
Comrade Nguyen Trung Khanh: To realize the goal of turning Vietnam's tourism into a spearhead economic sector with sustainable development, it is necessary to innovate thinking and working methods with creative, breakthrough, synchronous and effective measures. The tourism industry will implement the motto "Unique products, professional services, quick procedures, competitive prices, clean and beautiful environment, safe and friendly destinations". To create a breakthrough for the tourism industry to enter a new era, in the coming time, the industry will promote institutional improvement in the direction of creating and removing barriers for businesses, while strongly reforming administrative procedures, creating favorable conditions for tourism business activities. Expanding visa exemption policies, simplifying entry and exit procedures, strengthening international transport connections and encouraging the development of new types of tourism are also identified as effective drivers to attract international visitors.

Along with that, the tourism industry will focus on improving the quality of products and services, building international brands, while promoting innovation, developing a professional, competitive tourism ecosystem and deeply integrating into the global supply chain. Close coordination between localities, businesses and professional organizations is also an important factor, especially in regional connectivity, destination promotion and human resource training. All these efforts aim to create a strategic push, bringing Vietnamese tourism into a deeper, more professional and more sustainable development phase.
PV: On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the industry's founding, what message do you want to send to those working in the tourism sector and to the general public?
Comrade Nguyen Trung Khanh: Over the past 65 years, Vietnam tourism has always strived to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party and the State, making increasingly positive contributions to the cause of protecting and developing the country. On this occasion, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all those who have been contributing to the development of the industry, from managers, businesses, tour guides, direct workers to local communities across the country. It is their dedication, creativity and perseverance that have contributed to creating a friendly and attractive image of Vietnam in the eyes of international friends. I also send my sincere thanks to the numerous domestic and international tourists who have always accompanied, trusted and chosen Vietnam as a destination.
In the coming period, Vietnam tourism will continue to innovate strongly, focusing on tourists, developing in a greener, smarter and more sustainable direction. We hope that every citizen and every tourist will become a tourism ambassador, together preserving the beauty of nature, culture and people of Vietnam.
PV: Thank you very much, comrade!
