Two classy headers from the "Song Bac" duo (Dinh Bac and Xuan Bac) helped U23 Vietnam come from behind to defeat U23 Philippines and confidently advance to the final of the U23 Southeast Asia for the third consecutive time. Even if coach Kim Sang-sik's students had adjusted their aim more carefully and added a little luck, they could have brought home a magnificent victory.
But that statistic is no longer important. U23 Vietnam has reached the final match. Glory is only one battle away for Van Khang and his teammates, and it is also the biggest challenge they have faced since the beginning of the tournament.
With a team consisting of many players with experience in regional youth tournaments and harsh environments like V.League, U23 Vietnam is more than capable of overcoming the enormous pressure from the fiery stands at Gelora Bung Karno.
Of course, the Golden Star Warriors are not alone. Vietnamese fans will certainly come to the stadium to "fuel" Kim Sang-sik and his team. In addition, millions of football hearts from the S-shaped land are also ready to beat together with Dinh Bac, Quoc Viet, Trung Kien, Van Truong, Le Viktor...
Up to now, in terms of both performance and results, U23 Vietnam is the team that has made the strongest impression. There are still some moments of lapses in concentration in the defense or the ability to take advantage of opportunities is not yet fully understood, but overall, the team under coach Kim Sang-sik has shown the image of a champion.
Not to mention, compared to U23 Indonesia, U23 Vietnam has a slight advantage in physical strength. In the semi-finals, the Golden Star Warriors only needed 90 minutes to quickly defeat U23 Philippines, while the home team had to go through more than 120 tiring and stressful minutes against their fateful opponent U23 Thailand.
"U23 Vietnam is a quality team. Although we haven't watched all of their matches, the players' level is very high. We need to prepare carefully and concentrate highly for the final match," said assistant Frank van Kempen of U23 Indonesia.
If fans cannot go directly to Jakarta to "support" Kim Sang-sik and his team, they can cheer on U23 Vietnam to win a hat-trick of championships through live TV channels or online platforms of VTV or FTP Play.
