OpenAI has just announced a major update to ChatGPT, allowing users to interact directly with third-party applications such as Spotify, Canva, or Zillow right within the chat window. This new feature promises to transform ChatGPT into a comprehensive "operation center," where users can work, entertain, and shop without leaving the conversation.

The update was introduced along with a new App SDK, making it easier for developers to integrate their products into ChatGPT. According to OpenAI, the first partners to join include Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Booking.com, and Zillow. In the near future, other popular platforms such as Uber, Instacart, and DoorDash will also join the list.
Users can activate the app by directly calling its name in the chat, for example: “Spotify, create a relaxing music playlist” or “Booking.com, find hotels in Paris.” Additionally, ChatGPT can automatically suggest relevant apps based on the conversation context – for instance, when discussing buying a house, the chatbot might suggest Zillow for interactive maps and property listings.

Using ChatGPT too much can make you feel... lonely.
The underlying technology for this feature is the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows ChatGPT to connect to and extract data from various tools. The SDK is currently open to developers in preview mode, and OpenAI plans to launch a developer directory and monetization program later this year.

Notably, all ChatGPT users – including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro (outside the EU) plans – can experience this feature. This is considered a significant step towards ChatGPT's goal of becoming a true "multipurpose personal assistant," capable of supporting learning, work, booking, travel planning, and even in-app purchases.
As AI continues to evolve, the lines between "chatbots" and "intelligent assistants" are blurring. ChatGPT is no longer just a place for conversation; it's becoming the central platform for all of a user's digital activities – opening up a future where everything can be accomplished through conversation.
