SEA Games 33 officially opened on December 9 and will last until December 20. Some sports will start earlier than this time, such as football (from December 3), badminton and hockey (from December 7). In addition to the main venue, Rajamangala Stadium, SEA Games 33 activities will be held at 60 different locations in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla provinces.

The organizing committee announced that the 33rd Southeast Asian Games will have 574 sets of medals, belonging to 50 official competitions: aquatics, athletics, archery, badminton, basketball, canoe and rowing, cycling, horse racing, fencing, football - futsal, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, rugby, sailing, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, wrestling, skating, ice hockey, modern pentathlon, weightlifting, baseball and softball, billiards - snooker, boxing, floorball, e-sports, muay, netball, pencak silat, petanque, badminton. Sepak Takraw, Squash, Bowling, Extreme, Karate, Jujitsu, Cricket, Wushu, Kabaddi. In addition, the 33rd SEA Games will also host 4 demonstration events: Disc Throw, Tug of War, Air Sports, and MMA with 12 sets of medals not included in the overall results.
The 33rd SEA Games marks the 7th time the Southeast Asian Games returns to Thailand, 18 years after the last hosting (2007). The event has a total of 12,506 athletes competing, from 11 sports delegations from 11 ASEAN member countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and host country Thailand.
