Many lakes increase capacity sharply - flood discharge exceeds 1,000 m³/s
According to the update at 9:00 p.m. on November 19, the water level at a series of reservoirs increased rapidly in just 7 hours, especially Song Cai reservoir (Bac Ai Tay commune) where the water level increased from 190.68 m (14 hours) to 193.9 m (21 hours), exceeding the design; the spillway flow increased from 801.84 m³/s to 1,383.66 m³/s, an increase of nearly 600 m³/s; 5 sluice gates were opened (increased from 3 gates to 5 gates). This is the largest discharge reservoir, capable of causing deep flooding downstream of Bac Ai and Ninh Son communes and the Cai River area. Song Than reservoir (Anh Dung commune) at 9:00 p.m. had a high water level of 133.94 m, a sharp increase compared to 2:00 p.m.; Flood discharge increased from 95.55 m³/s to 436.14 m³/s - 4.5 times; 3 400cm gates opened. Tra Co Lake (Bac Ai commune) flood discharge increased from 175.08 m³/s to 270.6 m³/s; 3 300cm gates opened. Tan Giang Lake (Phuoc Ha commune) flood discharge increased from 45.2 m³/s to 166.51 m³/s; 3 90cm gates are open and overflowing freely.

In addition, many lakes exceed their design capacity such as: Ma Trai (111%), Phuoc Nhon (103%), Loi Hai (104%), Ba Rau (97% - 97.2%), CK7 (111%), Ta Ranh (135%), Thanh Son (117%)... creating great pressure on the entire flood drainage system.
Risk of widespread flooding
Mr. Nguyen Cong Xung - Chairman of Ninh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. said: The flow to the lake continues to increase rapidly, forcing the discharge level to be raised to ensure the safety of the works, requesting local authorities to urgently inform people in the downstream areas and proactively evacuate in low-lying areas and along rivers and streams. At the same time, people are advised to follow the announcements of the authorities and the irrigation sector; do not travel, fish, or collect firewood on rivers and streams; proactively move assets and livestock to high places. People in the downstream areas of Bac Ai, Ninh Son, Thuan Bac, Thuan Nam, Ninh Phuoc, Phuoc Ha, and Cong Hai are at risk of localized to deep flooding, and need to be especially vigilant.
