The pilot model of hairy crab farming in Dai Nai ward (Ha Tinh city, Ha Tinh) initially brings many prospects, both bringing high economic value and contributing to spreading hometown products.
Hairy crab (also known as "nha") - a unique type of crab that lives naturally in Phu River and Rao Cai River. The crabs have a slim shape, with a soft, fluffy tuft of hair on the head of their claws.
In the past, hairy crabs were quite abundant in the Phu River and were a popular dish for people living in this area. However, over time, this crab has gradually become more sought after by gourmets and is considered an expensive specialty in many places; in addition, with the development of urban areas, natural hairy crabs in the Phu River have gradually become scarce.
Worried about the depletion of their homeland's products, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, in residential group 2, Dai Nai ward ( Ha Tinh city), have implemented a hairy crab farming model on an area of over 3,000 square meters (mixed with other types of seafood).
"The crab breed is mainly small hairy crabs exploited from nature. Raising hairy crabs is not difficult. The crabs mainly eat minced trash fish or forage in the wild and must have a sewer system connected to the Phu River to ensure water balance," said Ms. Nguyet.
After nearly 2 years of pilot implementation in the form of extensive farming, the model has brought quite positive results, aiming to ensure a stable supply for the market.
Hairy crabs start their season around the 8th lunar month every year and by the 10th lunar month is when the crabs are at their fattest and most delicious. Currently, in Mr. Hien and Ms. Nguyet's model, crabs are harvested 2-3 times a week, each time yielding 5-7kg and are imported to restaurants at a price of about 140,000 VND/kg.
However, harvesting hairy crabs is also difficult, especially when the weather turns cold and the temperature drops.
Ms. Nguyet said that she often receives orders from households in Hanoi . This also partly shows the attractiveness of this type of crab.
Hairy crab meat contains many nutrients that are good for the body such as protein, minerals and vitamins. In addition, hairy crab also contains many good fats Omega-3 that help protect the cardiovascular system, bones and joints and support brain development...
Hairy crabs can be processed into many different dishes such as: steamed, fried with tamarind or crushed into soup, very sweet and fragrant. Especially the crab fat layer is smooth, fatty and fragrant. If you have the chance, try Phu River hairy crab to have an interesting experience with Ha Tinh cuisine.
The hairy crab farming model is one of the new models deployed in the area. The model has taken advantage of the natural advantages of households with land areas adjacent to the Phu River. This is a natural resource that only exists in the Phu River. After a period of implementation, it has been shown that hairy crabs are very popular in the market, bringing quite high economic value to farming households.
This is the basis for the locality to continue to research and learn more about the habits of hairy crabs, thereby gradually expanding the model. In addition to hairy crabs, in recent times, the ward has also implemented many other economic models with high efficiency. These are models that maximize the potential and advantages of Dai Nai's land and water, creating jobs and increasing income for the people.
