A series of electric car companies in Hoi An posted information apologizing to customers.

In response to the authorities placing speed limit signs of 30km/h on the outskirts of Hoi An ancient town, in the past few days, electric vehicle suppliers in many wards in Da Nang have posted notices apologizing to customers.

"The State's regulations temporarily ban some routes for electric vehicles in Hoi An Dong, Hoi An Tay and Hoi An wards, so the company announced the temporary suspension of electric vehicle operations on the banned routes from July 14 until further notice.

This suspension is to comply with State regulations and ensure safety and convenience for passengers.

The company will continuously update the situation and announce when the routes banned from electric vehicles are reopened.

The company sincerely apologizes for this inconvenience and hopes to continue to receive the understanding and support of customers in the future" - the notice sent to customers of an electric vehicle business in Hoi An mentioned.

In a customer error report on July 16, a business with a large number of electric vehicles in Hoi An also mentioned similar content.

"In accordance with the State's regulations on the operation of electric vehicles on routes with 30km/h signs, currently the pick-up and drop-off location of your partner is on a route that does not meet the regulations from July 1.

Therefore, we would like to temporarily stop providing pick-up, drop-off and transfer services. The company is very sorry and sincerely apologizes for this inconvenience" - an announcement from an electric car company in Hoi An stated.

Roads with 30km/h maximum speed signs allow electric vehicles to run - Photo: BD

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of July 16, the owner of an accommodation area in Hoi An Dong ward said that because the tram suddenly stopped picking up guests, for the past two days some guests have not been able to call this service to visit the countryside.

"For a long time, electric cars have come to our hotel gate to pick up guests to go to the old town and visit the craft villages, but now the roads connecting to the hotel are not on the roads that allow electric cars to operate. Guests have to call a taxi app or ride a bicycle," said the owner of the accommodation at Cua Dai beach.

According to the director of an electric vehicle company in Hoi An, the number of roads with 30km/h speed limit signs in Hoi An is still small.

Trams are only allowed to run during designated hours on these routes. The old routes where the buses pick up and drop off passengers have not had signs so trams cannot pick up or drop off passengers.

"Over the past 2 days we have received many calls from many accommodations, customers, and partners.

Customers are also sad but we don't know what to do, we just hope the regulations will be relaxed because the electric cars in Hoi An are considered very suitable by the authorities" - Mr. K., owner of an electric car company in Hoi An, said.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on June 19, the Department of Construction of Quang Nam province (now the Department of Construction of Da Nang city) sent a proposal to higher levels to adjust the traffic organization plan on some roads in Hoi An.

This is to ensure traffic safety and create conditions to exploit the existing electric vehicles in tourist centers.

According to the People's Committee of Hoi An City at that time (now the People's Committee of Da Nang City), Decree No. 165/2024 of the Government stipulates that from February 15, 2025, electric vehicles are only allowed to run on roads with signs indicating a maximum operating speed of 30km/h (this speed applies to all vehicles).

Without the 30km/h sign, 123 electric cars in Hoi An will not be allowed to run. Through surveys and consultations with all parties, the Department of Construction of Quang Nam province believes that limiting the speed to 30km/h on many streets in Hoi An is necessary and appropriate.
