On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day, the Long An Provincial Military Command solemnly held the inauguration ceremony of the statue of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Attending were Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Commission - Mai Van Chinh; Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don - Former Deputy Minister of National Defense .
On the provincial side, there were Party Central Committee member, Provincial Party Secretary, Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Council - Nguyen Van Duoc; Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation - Nguyen Thanh Hai, along with Central leaders, former leaders of the Army and the province through the periods.
On behalf of the provincial armed forces, Colonel Nguyen Tan Linh - Commander of the Long An Provincial Military Command reviewed the life, background and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap - the Elder Brother of the People's Army. Not only was he an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh, the General was also an outstanding military man, politician and diplomat, respected by the whole nation and the world.
The project is designed to include: the statue of the General is made of pure red copper, 1.2m high, more than 1m wide. The statue pedestal is designed in a circle, 6m in diameter, combined with 4 flower beds to form a complete concentric circle, with a green perspective.
The construction of the statue of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the Long An Provincial Military Command is a sincere expression of the deep respect and gratitude of the officers, soldiers of the armed forces and the people of Long An for the great contributions of the General. The project is also a place to educate revolutionary traditions for generations of officers and soldiers of the armed forces today and tomorrow, thereby fostering the spirit of love for the homeland and country for generations, especially the young generation.
General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 - October 4, 2013) was born in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province. He was the first general of the Vietnam People's Army at the age of 37. He served as a member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, and Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Army.
The General's name is associated with the birth of the Vietnam People's Army, with the Dien Bien Phu victory that "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world" and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign in the spring of 1975. The talent and personality of General Vo Nguyen Giap are symbols of Vietnamese intelligence and dignity.
