According to the Organizing Committee, the number of flower lanterns this year includes 20,000 candle-lit paper lanterns, 10,000 battery-powered lotus lanterns and 5,000 plastic flower lanterns arranged around the lake. In particular, seven large lotus flowers are arranged on the lake surface, creating a sacred and impressive highlight for the festival space.

Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Patriarchal Council and President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, said: “The peace prayer ceremony is an opportunity for us to turn our hearts to the world and send our best wishes to all directions. Let us pray that countries in conflict will soon find a path to dialogue, resolving misunderstandings and hatred with tolerance and humanity.”

“The 2025 Vesak Festival is not only an occasion to worship the Buddha but also a profound reminder of the spirit of love, solidarity, and working towards a planet without war and suffering,” said Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon.

The ceremony of releasing flower lanterns to pray for world peace was held at Lang Le Park, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

After the symbolic lantern release ceremony by the leaders, the organizers announced that people should not release lanterns into the lake to ensure safety and protect the environment. Instead, lanterns are encouraged to be placed along the lake shore or around flower beds. Volunteers quickly collected the lanterns released early before the announcement, ensuring hygiene and beauty of the area.

The atmosphere of the festival night remained solemn, warm and spread the spirit of humanity. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, a volunteer supporting the program, said: “I have participated in many Vesak seasons, but this year was especially impressive because everyone joined hands to protect the environment. Even though there were no lanterns released into the lake, the atmosphere was still very meaningful. Each lighted lantern carries the hope for a more peaceful world.”
