Attending the Grand Ceremony were Comrade Doan Minh Huan, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee; representatives of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ninh Binh province; representatives of the Ninh Binh provincial leadership, along with nearly 5,000 monks, nuns, Buddhists, and citizens.
At the Grand Ceremony, Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Abbot of Bai Dinh Pagoda, read the message for the Buddha's Birthday Celebration, Buddhist Calendar 2569, from the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
Venerable Thich Minh Quang, Secretary of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, and Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ninh Binh province, delivered a speech on the significance of Buddha's Birthday.
The delegates solemnly recited Buddhist prayers for blessings and played the national anthem and the Buddhist anthem at the grand ceremony. |
Accordingly, the message and speech call upon every Buddhist worldwide to diligently practice, attain the samadhi of compassion, spread love to all sentient beings, illuminate the world with the light of compassion and wisdom; unite, be harmonious and actively work with humanity to build a truly peaceful and tranquil world; put people at the center, respect dignity, and ensure that no one is left behind on the journey of sustainable development…
The 2025 Buddha's Birthday celebration is not only an occasion for every Buddhist to commemorate the three great events in the life of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nirvana, but also a global spiritual and cultural gathering, where humanity comes together to embrace the universal values of Buddhist wisdom: compassion, wisdom, and peace for the world today.
At the Grand Ceremony, Comrade Bui Mai Hoa, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee, emphasized that, upholding the tradition of close ties and companionship with the nation, in the past year, the various levels of the Buddhist Church and Buddhist followers in the province have joined forces with the Party Committee and the government, always taking the lead in many activities that benefit the country and the people, such as: actively participating in the movement to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas, civilized tourism, charitable and humanitarian activities, social welfare, promoting education and talent; and providing relief to people in need.
For example, Catholic dignitaries and officials have joined hands to build 54 houses symbolizing solidarity between Catholics and non-Catholics, construct bridges, and install lighting systems around historical sites. These are exemplary projects nationwide, representing a unique approach characteristic of Ninh Binh.
Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that the venerable monks, nuns, Buddhist followers, and people of the province will continue to preserve and promote the tradition of "protecting the nation and ensuring the people's well-being," closely accompanying the Vietnamese Buddhist community; strengthening unity and harmony, using service to sentient beings as a means to practice and attain enlightenment, affirming the superior values of Buddhism - a religion of peace.
On this occasion, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Ninh Binh province, in coordination with Xuan Truong Construction Enterprise, presented gifts to 200 underprivileged students in Gia Vien and Nho Quan districts, with each gift worth 1 million VND. |
In the sacred atmosphere of the Buddha's birthday season, delegates, monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers solemnly commemorated the birth of the Buddha Shakyamuni; performing rituals of offering incense, praying, bathing the Buddha... with the wish for national prosperity and peace, world peace, the well-being of all beings, and the cultivation of virtuous hearts.
Numerous monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers offered prayers at the Grand Ceremony. |
In addition, the Grand Ceremony included a student retreat with the theme "Returning to the Source of Enlightenment - Taking Refuge in Compassion"; a tea meditation with the theme "The Fragrance of Tea in the Buddhist Season - The Sweetness of Compassion"; and a Buddhist exhibition with the theme "Buddhist Culture - Connecting Religion and Life," recounting the life of the Buddha and his teachings.
The delegates performed the ritual of bathing the Buddha statue. |
This year's Buddha's Birthday celebration at Bai Dinh Pagoda holds profound significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); and also marks the successful conclusion of the United Nations Vesak Day 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City.
This provides an opportunity for the Buddhist community and the people to together awaken the light of wisdom, nurture compassion, and unite people through love and understanding; it is also an opportunity to affirm the spirit of "Buddhism always accompanies the nation," contributing to strengthening national unity and building a compassionate, civilized, and developed society.
