People who keep the soul of Hanoi in the new rhythm of life

Hanoi is changing at an astonishing pace. Skyscrapers soar, highways meander, but hidden deep within the hustle and bustle, there is a quiet, enduring undercurrent.

It is the flow of people who are diligently and quietly preserving and breathing life into traditional values and unique cultural features that make up the soul of Thang Long.

Keeping the flame of thousand-year culture

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, people and tourists had the opportunity to stand still before the exquisite ceramic works of young artisans of Bat Trang pottery village such as Pham Van Hoi, Nguyen Van Hung, Pham Minh Quang, Nguyen Van Phuoc, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vu Dinh Manh, Vu Van Duc...

The work vividly recreates a journey through the golden pages of the nation's history. From the legend of "Dragon and Fairy's Children", the sacred image of the Hung Kings, the heroic spirit of the Trung Sisters' Uprising, the glorious victory of Ngo Quyen on Bach Dang, the strategic vision in the Proclamation on the Transfer of the Capital, the heroic text "Nam Quoc Son Ha", the resolute call in "Hich Tuong Si", to the glorious victory of Quang Trung in defeating the Qing army... Each ceramic detail is like a whisper of the glorious past. It can be seen that the artisans not only live with their profession, but also live fully with history, breathing in the culture of their own homeland.

In particular, the ceramic “heroic poem” titled “The Country is Full of Joy” is 2m high and 8m long - fully depicting the jubilant atmosphere and joy of national reunification after many years of hardship, from Hanoi to Saigon. The historical journey of gratitude on ceramics that the group of artisans sent to the community was displayed at the “North-South Promise” event in My Dinh, at the exhibition in Hue and continued to shine at the Vesak Festival 2025.

These people are not noisy and ostentatious, nor do they follow temporary trends. They are quiet and persistent in their work, with a strong belief that true values will last forever. It is their intense love and boundless dedication that have silently preserved the soul of Hanoi, creating a very unique identity, helping the city not to be mixed in with countless other modern cities.

Youth and the desire for constant innovation

It is not difficult to see the image of young students and engineers with enthusiastic eyes at co-working spaces in To Ngoc Van or high-tech zones such as Hoa Lac. They are nurturing ambitious technology start-up projects to solve urgent urban problems. It could be a smart mobile application that helps people find the fastest bus route, reducing traffic jams on already overloaded roads such as Ring Road 3 or Nguyen Trai. Or an air sensor system that monitors environmental quality in real time, providing data to people, contributing to cleaning the air. They are gradually realizing the dream of a smarter, greener and cleaner Hanoi.

With their creativity, young people living and studying in Hanoi today are turning old, seemingly forgotten areas into attractive, creative cultural destinations.

A typical example is Complex 01 at 29 Dao Duy Tu, an old apartment complex that has been "changed" into a chain of fashion stores, cafes, and art studios. Or the 19/12 Book Street, a small street that has been transformed into an ideal reading culture space. They have cleverly recreated it, retaining the nostalgic features but breathing in a contemporary breath, turning mossy walls into art galleries, and common courtyards into cozy cafes.

It is their youth, bold thinking and endless aspirations that have contributed to shaping a new lifestyle and vision for Hanoi: dynamic, creative and integrated.
