Ngo Vinh Binh - the person who made great contributions to creating literary materials for Military Literature and Arts

Colonel, literary critic Ngo Vinh Binh was born in 1953 in Thuy Loi village, Thuy Lam commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi city (now Thu Lam commune, Hanoi).

Good at literature since childhood, he was a student in the literature class in Hanoi, but when he entered university he chose the history department of Hanoi University of Science.

After graduating, he worked at the Institute of Ethnology (under the Vietnam Social Sciences Committee, now the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences).

But fate eventually brought him back to literature when he enlisted in the army, participated in the Northern border war in 1979, and then worked at the Army Literature magazine.

Here, from the position of sub-editor, he was trusted to be promoted to the position of editor-in-chief of the prestigious literary magazine.

Also at the "literary temple" at 4 Ly Nam De (address of the Army Literature magazine), after 4 decades of diligently working and living among military writers, Ngo Vinh Binh formed his own style of criticism.

Critic Ngo Thao, Mr. Ngo Vinh Binh's "boss" when Mr. Binh first joined the Army Literature and Arts , called that unique style approaching literary criticism from a historical perspective.

Mr. Ngo Thao said Ngo Vinh Binh has many achievements in research and finding documents about writers.

As a historian who switched to literary criticism, he brought the style of a historian to literary research, approaching literature from a historical perspective, being very diligent and careful in documenting.

"He is not a sharp literary critic, but he is a person who has accumulated a lot of literary documents, especially those of military writers, and has made great contributions to creating literary documents for Military Literature and Arts ," said Mr. Ngo Thao.

Enrich the beauty of Uncle Ho's soldiers

Writer Nguyen Binh Phuong also expressed his respect for his predecessor's contributions.

Mr. Phuong said that writer and critic Ngo Vinh Binh has a lot of documents about military writers, diligently takes notes, and writes many anecdotes about writers, especially military writers.

"At work, he is diligent, hard-working, kind, and devoted to literature. In life, he is the same: neat, gentle, approachable, witty, rustic, and loved by everyone," said Mr. Nguyen Binh Phuong.

Ngo Vinh Binh has published more than 30 books including literary theory research books and prose.

The subject he devoted much of his time to writing about soldier writers from the resistance war against French colonialism, through the resistance war against America to save the country, to the fight to protect the southwestern border and the northern border of the Fatherland.

His works are considered valuable "archive documents" of the country's literature.

According to Dr. and critic Doan Minh Tam, with his clear, simple, and humorous writing style and abundant, unique sources of information accumulated from books and field trips, his memoirs and essays have contributed to enriching the beauty of Uncle Ho's soldiers and Hanoi - two topics he loves passionately.
