Recognizing 900 candidates meeting the standards of professor and associate professor in 2025

The State Council of Professors has just announced a list of 900 candidates meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor in 2025, after a selection, assessment and voting process lasting many months.

On the evening of November 3, the State Council of Professors announced the official results after the 4th meeting of the 2024 - 2029 term.

71 candidates met the professor standard and 829 candidates met the associate professor standard

Previously, on November 2, the council discussed and voted to approve the results of the review of the industry and interdisciplinary professor councils to select candidates who are eligible for recognition as meeting the standards for the titles of professor and associate professor.

According to a report from the Office of the State Council of Professors, in 2025, there were 1,073 candidates applying, including 100 professor candidates and 973 associate professor candidates, at 117 basic councils.

After rounds of document assessment, foreign language assessment and general scientific report, 1,014 candidates (93 professor candidates, 921 associate professor candidates) were recommended to be considered at the industry and interdisciplinary levels.

28 industry and interdisciplinary professor councils then selected and recommended 911 candidates (73 professors, 838 associate professors) to submit to the State Council of Professors for consideration and recognition.

After receiving candidate profiles from industry and interdisciplinary councils, the Office of the State Council of Professors coordinated with the standing committees of industry and interdisciplinary councils to examine and review the evidence of all candidate profiles, and reported to the standing committee of the State Council of Professors before submitting them to the State Council of Education for consideration and recognition.

After reviewing, verifying evidence and publicly discussing each profile, the State Council of Professors conducted a vote. As a result, 900 candidates received the required number of votes of confidence, including 71 professors and 829 associate professors.

The pass rate compared to the total number of initial applicants was 83.88%, of which the pass rate for professor candidates was 71%, and for associate professor candidates was 85.2%.

This year's recognition continues to be implemented according to the provisions of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg and Decision 25/2020/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister .

According to the Office of the State Council of Professors, councils at all levels have strictly complied with the regulations of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the resolutions and instructions of the state councils.

The quality of candidates in 2025 is assessed as quite good, demonstrated by significantly improved foreign language proficiency and the number of scientific works published in international journals of ISI, Scopus or other prestigious journals meeting the requirements.

This year, the list of qualified candidates is made public on the websites of higher education institutions and the State Council of Professors. This publicity helps increase transparency, creating conditions for society and the scientific community to participate in criticism and comments.

According to the assessment of Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son - Chairman of the State Council of Professors - the recognition process in 2025 was carried out seriously, fairly, objectively and towards improving quality.

"The professor councils at all levels and the advisory departments have worked carefully, ensuring accuracy, fairness and transparency," Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Tran Anh Tuan - Chief of Office of the State Council of Professors - the list of candidates meeting the standards of professor and associate professor in 2025 will be announced tonight, November 3.

"Candidates need to carefully check their personal information: date of birth and hometown updated according to the new commune and province. Within 15 days, if there are no petitions or complaints, the Chairman of the State Council of Professors will sign a decision to recognize the qualifications for the title of professor or associate professor in 2025," said Mr. Tuan.
