Applying AI to build smart hospitals, aiming to master medical technology

Bach Mai Hospital leaders expect that the application of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare will help hospitals build a 'smart hospital' model, a medical data warehouse, and move towards mastering medical technology.

On the evening of November 4, Bach Mai Hospital andFPT Corporation officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement on digital transformation and application of science and technology in medical examination and treatment.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that although the hospital has made progress in digital transformation in recent times, he admitted that there are still some limitations.

"If we only rely on internal resources, the hospital's digital transformation process will certainly be slow. But with the support of technology enterprises, especially leading corporations in science and technology, we believe that digital transformation will be accelerated and much more effective," said Mr. Co.

Bach Mai Hospital leaders said the hospital is placing high hopes on digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in management, operations, as well as supporting diagnosis and treatment. The long-term goal will be to build a "smart hospital", with digitalized medical data that can be connected, analyzed and shared among medical facilities nationwide.

"The hospital aims to connect data with all hospitals nationwide, forming a large medical data warehouse to serve disease model analysis, professional research and training of high-quality medical human resources," Mr. Co shared.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, said that the medical industry is a special field, closely linked to human health. Artificial intelligence (AI), big data and digital platforms will be the "key" to help Bach Mai Hospital become a modern hospital model. He also affirmed that AI can be applied in many areas of the medical field.

Mr. Binh said that the unit will be ready to accompany Bach Mai Hospital in implementing comprehensive digital transformation solutions.

According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate comprehensively, focusing on four key areas, from comprehensive digital transformation, technology application in medical care and treatment, to health care and medical human resource development.

The Group will provide overall strategy consulting, build information technology infrastructure, develop a centralized medical data warehouse, and a data integration axis connecting with national and international databases according to HL7 FHIR and OMOP CDM standards.

The two sides also cooperated in deploying artificial intelligence (AI) applications in supporting diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, endoscopy, forecasting patient needs, optimizing hospital operations, and building a Telemedicine system for remote consultation, consulting, and training.
