Video : Aion Y Plus in Vietnam - Good but difficult questions.
The information that Chinese car company AION is withdrawing from Vietnam has been confirmed by the exclusive distributor, Harmony Vietnam Company (under Harmony Group - China), which has changed the identity of Aion dealers to BYD showrooms since March 2025. Harmony Vietnam's media representative also said that AION's business activities will not stop but will be adjusted to suit the company's new strategy.
The company officially entered Vietnam in October 2024, expecting to lead the wave of Chinese electric vehicles in this market with BYD. However, in reality, after nearly 6 months of presence, AION's operations in Vietnam are still very dim. Vehicle sales are almost a mystery, while brand recognition in the market and promotional activities are very limited.

The sole Vietnamese dealer of the Chinese electric car brand AION is no longer operating, but the distributor said this is only a temporary adjustment. |
Models such as Y Plus and AION ES with a reasonable price of 888 million VND, are expected to attract young customers, however, after more than 4 months of launch, the number of cars sold is almost zero.
Since mid-March 2025, AION's sole dealer in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City has removed its signboard and switched to distributing BYD vehicles. The company's official fanpage has not updated any new posts since early March 2024.
AION cars rarely appear on the streets, test drive programs are also very limited in Ho Chi Minh City and a few neighboring provinces. The company once expected to have 20 showrooms in 2025 and 30 showrooms in 2026, but so far there is only one dealer in Ho Chi Minh City.

With recent moves, the possibility of AION withdrawing from Vietnam is very high. |
The AION brand has not been widely recognized. In contrast to BYD, Omoda & Jaecoo and most recently Geely, AION is almost "quiet". It has not yet built a distribution and after-sales system. Vietnamese customers are still hesitant about Chinese electric vehicles in terms of quality, service and resale value.
With recent moves, the possibility of AION withdrawing from Vietnam is very high, because although this market is still a "delicious cake", gaining market share is not simple, especially for electric vehicles which still have many obstacles in terms of infrastructure, especially the charging station system.
According to experts, one of the barriers that makes it difficult for these two Chinese electric car models to access the Vietnamese market is the lack of a public charging station system.
