Different destinations

As the world’s leading luxury hotel brand and part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts hotel management group, the position and reputation of the InterContinental brand is affirmed by its high-class, modern accommodation and services that still bear the imprint of local culture. But above all, what makes InterContinental different is the brand’s choice of destinations.

According to Mr. Paul Cunningham, Senior Director of Operations for IHG Hotels & Resorts in Southeast Asia and Korea, each InterContinental location has its own unique space and style, from historical icons to contemporary works.

The locations that catch the eye of InterContinental not only possess prime locations, but also have many values such as unique terrain, long history, inspiring cultural stories...

InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau – a resort located at the southern tip of Raa Atoll near Baa Atoll, one of the five most beautiful beaches in the Maldives – is considered one of the iconic structures of InterContinental class. This place owns one of the largest coral reefs in the Indian Ocean and is famous for the diversity of marine animals.

Pushing the boundaries of creativity, the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is the world’s first underground hotel. Built on an abandoned quarry that was exploited during World War II, the building has 16 underground floors and 2 underwater floors.

Here, InterContinental offers adventure travel experiences, such as bungee jumping from an 88-meter-high cliff or a nature exploration journey at Xa Son National Forest.

Not only favoring coastal cities and “paradise” islands, InterContinental also shows special interest in green destinations, where urban visitors are free to connect with the natural ecosystem. For example, in Thailand, after its presence in Phuket, Pattaya, Koh Samui... InterContinental added to its collection the InterContinental Khao Yai resort.

This is a unique destination hidden in the ancient mountains, located next to the historic Khao Yai National Park - where many species of wildlife are preserved.

In addition to the specially designed nature discovery experiences, InterContinental also treats guests to famous local products harvested from the farm located inside the resort such as: grapes - the raw material for premium local wine, golden dragon fruit, wild honey...

InterContinental's first "Valley resort" in Vietnam

In the world of hotel and resort industry, resorts are classified in many ways with many different types. Classification by experience purpose includes spa resort, retreat resort, golf resort, ski resort... Classification by season includes winter resort, summer resort (usually applied to specific areas with a long-lasting weather pattern).

Classified by location, there are beach resorts, mountain resorts, lake resorts and valley resorts, of which the most popular is beach resorts. On the contrary, lake and valley resorts are relatively rare because there are not many lake or valley locations that meet the strict standards of landscape, traffic connections, amenities, uniqueness... of management brands, especially in the high-end segment.

Recently, InterContinental attracted the attention of the tourism and real estate industry when announcing information about the first “valley resort” project in Vietnam. This location is a valley named Thanh Xuan Valley, located north of Hanoi.

In terms of location, this place is located near Dai Lai Lake, less than 60 minutes drive from the center of Hanoi, connecting with the capital region and holding an important strategic position for industrial development and trade - tourism.

Regarding infrastructure, according to the published information, the resort is located in a 170-hectare project complex including many components including high-class residential areas, parks, 10km trekking trails and ziplines through the forest, a vibrant "down town" area and necessary medical and educational infrastructure.

Located among a variety of diverse infrastructure facilities, InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley Resort is one of the few resorts that meet the requirements of a "destination resort" in the Northern region.

However, the most prominent factor that made the giant InterContinental choose Thanh Xuan Valley is the natural landscape. Looking at the satellite image, this entire area is located on semi-mountainous terrain, deep in the valley, surrounded by mountains.

Surrounding the resort are 80 hectares of pine forests over 50 years old, 8 freshwater lakes, natural streams and intact valley terrain. This unique terrain has inspired experts from InterContinental and design consultancy WATG to come up with the idea of the "tree top villa" model - unique luxury hotel rooms hanging on trees.

Not only that, this area possesses rich vegetation with many types of flowering plants such as rhododendrons, camellias, orchids, and yellow trumpet vine... The actual construction density of the Thanh Xuan Valley resort and urban tourist area will be maintained at 15%, below the average of 5-star resorts.

Expected to be operational from 2027, InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley Resort promises to not only be a breath of fresh air, but also change the concept of living and experiencing for customers who cherish the values of nature, lifestyle and special community here.
