Having gone through hardships and shocks related to the health of loved ones, they appreciate life even more and empathize more with those around them. They repay life's kindness with meaningful actions, and these beautiful deeds multiply and spread...
The joy of a new school year.
More than a month after the Central Office of the Vietnam Thalassemia Association and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion launched the "Scholarship of Loving Kindness" program, hundreds of students (mostly from the northern provinces) have received gifts to celebrate the new school year from philanthropists. The program calls for donations of school supplies for pediatric patients with thalassemia and the children of thalassemia patients throughout northern Vietnam.

Responding to the program's appeal, numerous philanthropists, including individuals, businesses, and organizations, participated. They directly selected school supplies and personally delivered them to the addresses registered with the "Scholarship for a Journey of Love" program. The Zalo group "Phivolent Scholarship Providers 2025 - THA," created by the Central Office of the Vietnam Thalassemia Association, is always filled with images of children happily receiving gifts and messages of gratitude from the children and their parents to the philanthropists.
Most recently, also from the "Scholarship of Loving Kindness" program, on August 29th, Bac Ninh No. 1 Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital announced that it had received gifts of school supplies for child patients being treated at the hospital; prior to that, on August 27th, 50 gift packages were delivered to child patients in Dien Bien province...
As a parent whose child is being treated for thalassemia at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Ms. Pham Bich Thu (Tu Liem Ward, Hanoi ) understands the losses and disadvantages her children have to endure. For many years, she has consistently supported programs launched by the Central Office of the Vietnam Thalassemia Association and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Ahead of the 2025-2026 school year, she and her friends donated 143 sets of school supplies to meet the needs of child patients and children of people with Thalassemia (worth 500,000 VND per set), along with 41 sets of candies and snacks...
Ms. Thu confided: “As parents, when we learned our child was sick, we were heartbroken, tormented, and couldn't accept the truth. But then, there was no other way; we had to live with our child's illness. For 12 long years, we followed our child to the hospital, enduring countless agonizing experiences of shock during blood transfusions, witnessing thousands of cases of impoverished people lacking the money for treatment… I felt sorry for my child and for all the poor patients. Realizing that I still have a stable job to provide for my child, I want to help others alleviate their daily worries. I want to make this world a better place; I want to repay life with good deeds.”

Driven by her love for life, Ms. Thu's beautiful actions continue to spread throughout society. Upon learning of Ms. Thu's gifts to the students, others have continued this story of compassion. Some retailers selling backpacks, school bags, and school supplies have partnered with her, offering discounts, and some have even donated 50 backpacks and school bags to her.
Or take the example of Ms. Tran Thu Huong (My Dinh ward, Hanoi), who personally packed, sent, and even paid for the express delivery of dozens of gifts she sent to students throughout Northern Vietnam...

Evaluating the results of the program to donate school supplies to children with Thalassemia and children of Thalassemia patients, a representative from the Central Office of the Vietnam Thalassemia Association stated that the 2025 scholarship program was a great success thanks to the enthusiastic contributions of philanthropists.
The Thalassemia Center, on behalf of the child patients who received the gifts, would like to express its sincere and profound gratitude to all the kind-hearted people. After more than a month of appeals, with over 700 letters/messages requesting support, the program has provided assistance to nearly 600 children. The gifts have reached the right people, in the right circumstances, and according to their wishes. This is a great source of encouragement for the children, giving them confidence and more joy as they enter the new school year...
Community of Connecting with Love
Like spreading circles of love, people like Ms. Pham Bich Thu, Ms. Tran Thu Huong, and many others have formed a connected community, sharing and supporting each other to make the world a better place.

Recounting how he came to be involved in building schools in mountainous areas and constructing charitable houses, Mr. L.D. from Dai Mo ward, Hanoi (who requested anonymity) shared that his journey of doing good deeds began by chance and completely naturally. More than a decade ago, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and doctors predicted she only had a few months to live... Shocked by this reality and unwilling to accept his mother's death, Mr. L.D. sought every possible treatment and method to improve his mother's health. Having gone through those precarious days with his mother's life hanging in the balance, he realized the true value of life.
Seeing the plight of the sick, he felt he had to do something. He put his thoughts into action, starting with charitable porridge kitchens in hospitals, donating gifts and money to patients...
Then, "Heaven did not disappoint," and his mother's health gradually stabilized. Through many experiences of gain and loss, he wanted to do more meaningful things for life. He began to consider bigger, more far-reaching steps by building schools in mountainous areas. He invested his time, money, and connected with like-minded friends to fulfill his wish, helping people in disadvantaged areas to alleviate their hardships and enabling children in mountainous regions to study in well-equipped classrooms...
Upon learning that local areas needed schools built, Mr. L.D. and his friends proactively contacted local authorities and school representatives to survey the number of students and teachers at each school location, and then developed a construction plan. His group calculated the area per student according to standard regulations, ensuring 1.2 to 1.5 square meters per student. In addition to classrooms, his group also built auxiliary facilities such as a kitchen, staff quarters for teachers, and restrooms. Currently, he and his friends are building three schools in the provinces of Dien Bien, Son La, and Lai Chau.
For the school sites, Mr. L.D and his friends raised money themselves to buy construction materials and pay for material transportation costs, while the labor for construction was usually provided by the local people.

In addition, he and his group of friends also collaborated with local authorities to build charitable houses for the poor and disadvantaged throughout the country. In 2024 alone, L.D.'s group, in collaboration with local authorities, built 12 new houses and renovated 2 houses; each new house cost approximately 70 million VND.
In addition, in August, Mr. L.D.'s charity group also raised nearly 500 million VND to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters in Nghe An province.
Without talking about himself, and without remembering how many schools he has built, how many houses of compassion he has constructed, or how much money he has donated to those in need, Mr. L.D. confided: “For more than 10 years, treating my mother's illness has also been a time when I have devoted myself to doing good deeds and helping others. I don't list or remember how many projects I've completed or how many people I've helped... after each act, I feel at peace. Now my mother is healthy, which is a priceless reward and also my greatest concern. I am grateful to this life!”
Joining Mr. L.D. in his charitable work, Ms. Hoang Lan, residing in Roman Plaza apartment complex (Dai Mo ward, Hanoi), established the Roman Plaza Charity Club. The club operates practically by mobilizing residents of Roman Plaza to collect waste such as plastic and paper to sell and raise money for charity. Through this collective effort, the club has, over the years, contributed to fundraising efforts, working with benefactors to build schools, houses, and help those in difficult circumstances.
“We have a transparent charity account; everyone in the club knows every penny that goes in or out. When people see that they are contributing to something useful, they will try harder and become more connected. Everything happens naturally and spreads throughout life. Everyone does it without hesitation or self-interest…” - Ms. Hoang Lan shared.
Instead of following trends, they steadfastly stand alongside countless destinies and lives, driven by a single belief: to make this life more compassionate and full of humanity.
