The 33rd SEA Games will take place in December this year in Thailand. Since this is a tournament outside of FIFA Days (a unified global competition schedule, set by FIFA), clubs are not obliged to “release” players to national teams.
Faced with that situation, some football teams in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, have reached an agreement with domestic clubs to temporarily suspend the tournament during the SEA Games.

This is to help players in the above mentioned football backgrounds wholeheartedly wear the U22 team jersey of each country, competing for the SEA Games Gold Medal.
Thailand also wants to do the same. However, recently, the President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang) failed to reach an agreement with the Thai-League competition system.
Clubs in Thailand do not agree to stop the domestic professional competition system during the 33rd SEA Games. After Madam Pang's failure in the negotiation process, the Thai-League will still take place as usual.
The Thai-League clubs only gave Madam Pang one concession, which was that they agreed to release a few players to the Thai U22 team, in case the FAT sent a letter requesting these players.
At the same time, the number of players that each club provides to the Thai U22 team is limited, not greatly affecting the professional ability of the clubs. Simply put, Thai-League clubs have the right to retain players under the age of 22, who they consider to be of utmost importance to them.
Madam Pang's failure to stop the Thai-League also inadvertently increased the chance of the Vietnam U22 team winning the 33rd SEA Games gold medal. At the most recent SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, Vietnam U22 won the bronze medal.
