Athletics Spectacular
The three spectacular gold medals of the "golden girls" in yesterday's competition helped Vietnamese athletics keep up with Thailand. Nguyen Thi Huyen's victory in the 400m hurdles was truly dramatic, when she beat her Philippine opponent Lauren Robyn with a powerful sprint in the final meters. "My Filipino opponent was very strong, so the strategy the coach gave me was to stay close. I felt she (Lauren Robyn) ran very well, clearing the hurdles a long way ahead of me. At the 9th hurdle, she still cleared first. I was very scared but still had to stay alert, trying to push forward to sprint," Nguyen Thi Huyen recounted. This victory helped Huyen forget the sadness of losing her forte in the women's 400m event (winning only a silver medal). She has now won 2 gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games after winning the 4x400m mixed relay event. "My next goal is to prepare with my teammates for the women's 4x400m relay and successfully defend the gold medal in this event," Nguyen Thi Huyen shared.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Women's 800m gold medal
Huy Hoang won the gold medal in the men's 400m freestyle yesterday but missed out on the gold medal in the 200m butterfly due to a short break.
Having just won the SEA Games gold medal, Huy Hoang hurriedly recovered and continued competing after 10 minutes.
Nguyen Huy Hoang received recovery support right after the first round.
In addition, the gold medal in the 800m event of athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Ha also left many emotions. The female athlete from Nam Dinh was left behind by her Philippine opponent Bernalyn in the first round, but she accelerated strongly in the last round to finish first with a result of 2 minutes 08 seconds 55. In the women's heptathlon event, athlete Nguyen Linh Na finished the final event of the 800m in second place after teammate Hoang Thanh Giang, to have a total score of 4,705 after 2 days of competition, winning the gold medal ahead of her Philippine opponent Sarah Dequinan (4,675 points). Linh Na had to postpone her wedding to focus on the 32nd SEA Games, so this achievement is a worthy compensation gift.
Nguyen Huy Hoang's "breathtaking" race
Yesterday, Vietnam's number 1 swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang had to race against time to compete in two consecutive finals, the 400m freestyle and the 200m butterfly. In the 400m freestyle, the swimmer from Quang Binh was fiercely pursued by Hoe Yean Khiew (Malaysia) and Lim Glen Jun Wei (Singapore) but still excelled to win, taking the gold medal with a time of 3 minutes 49 seconds 50.

Yesterday, the Vietnamese sports delegation won 8 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. The golden faces include: Duong Thuy Vi (women's spear and sword, wushu); Trieu Thi Phuong Thuy (women's 48 kg weight class, Kun Khmer); Nguyen Thi Huyen (women's 400 m hurdles, athletics); Bui Yen Ly (women's 57 kg weight class, Kun Khmer); Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (women's 800 m run, athletics); Nguyen Linh Na (heptathlon, athletics); Nguyen Huy Hoang (men's 400 m freestyle, swimming); 8. Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu (carom, billiards).
With less than 10 minutes to prepare for the 200m butterfly final, Huy Hoang immediately moved to the auxiliary pool to recover after coming ashore. Two coaches and a doctor from the Vietnamese sports delegation were also quickly present to massage the muscles to help the number 1 swimmer recover. However, with such a short break, he only finished fourth, unable to defend his gold medal. "In my career, I have never had to compete with such a tight schedule. If the time was 20-30 minutes apart, it would be fine, but here, after swimming and then swimming again, I could only walk and breathe at the same time, and my mentality was not good," Huy Hoang said. Finishing the 32nd SEA Games with 2 individual gold medals (1,500m freestyle, 400m freestyle), 1 relay gold medal (4x200m freestyle), Huy Hoang said he and his coaching staff are preparing for the most important tournament this year, the 19th ASIAD taking place in September in China.
Also yesterday, swimmer Pham Thanh Bao failed to defend his gold medal in the 50m breaststroke and ended the 32nd SEA Games with 2 gold medals and 2 records in the 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke. The Vietnamese swimming team won a total of 7 gold medals, 4 less than the 31st SEA Games. Meanwhile, Singapore continued to dominate the regional swimming scene with 22 gold medals.
