According to a VNA reporter in Germany, one of the festivals opening this fall in Berlin is the annual Giant Kite Festival, taking place this weekend.

Berlin has a real kite-flying paradise in the large park Tempelhofer Feld, the former Tempelhof Airport. It is Berlin's largest city park and one of the largest inner-city open spaces in the world .

This weekend, the 11th Giant Kite Festival took place at the large park Tempelhofer Feld, attracting tens of thousands of visitors with many exciting experiences for the whole family.

More than 80 kite experts from all over Europe flew 1,500 unique kites several dozen meters long, in all shapes and vibrant colors, and were joined by thousands of small kites flown by festival attendees, mainly young families.

French expert Jean Paul Maurin demonstrates a large airplane-shaped kite. He has been a kite designer for over 25 years and specializes in futuristic flying machines.

Thaitan Kite Team from Bangkok, Thailand, consisting of 4 members, participated in the festival with colorful large fish-shaped kites, a 20m high rainbow candy, a large dog and many other different kites.

While the giant kites are the undisputed highlight, visitors also get to learn a lot of interesting facts about kite flying at this festival.

An outdoor stage with a variety of musical performances, dance, acrobatics and talks adds to the entertainment factor of this unique family festival.

Young people also enjoy the kite making area and many games organized here.

Sports and cultural clubs from the neighbouring districts of Neukölln, Tempelhof and Schöneberg participated in a wide variety of performances.

Tempelhof Airport was the world's first commercial airport and played a key role in the largest airlift in human history during the Berlin blockade of 1948-1949. It was also the site of the world's first rigid airship flight./.
