Mbeumo has been Brentford's number one star in recent years, and has been sought after by Man United since the end of last season.
Mbeumo joined Brentford in the summer of 2019 from Troyes (France) for a mere £6 million. After 6 seasons, he scored 70 goals in 242 appearances in all competitions.
Last season was the most explosive time of the Cameroonian player's career, when he scored 20 goals. About to celebrate his 26th birthday, Mbeumo is valued at around 50 million pounds by Transfermarkt.
Since Man United approached, Brentford had put a price of 70 million pounds. And after 2 months of negotiation, the "red devils" finally had to accept the "bees'" conditions.
Specifically, the transfer fee for this deal is 65 million pounds, plus 5 million pounds in future fees. The only consolation for Man United is that they will be divided into 4 payments.
Mbeumo is United's third summer signing, having already spent £65m on Matheus Cunha and £3m on Diego Leon. United have now spent at least £133m on players this summer.
For the past decade, Man United have been the worst team in the transfer market. Almost every summer they spend £200-300 million on signing stars, but most of the deals have turned out to be failures.
Typical names include Hojlund (bought for 70 million pounds), Mount (60 million pounds), Onana (45 million), Antony (80 million), Sancho (70 million)...
Most of these players are being sold by Man United this summer, but no team has asked to buy them.
