On May 23, the Investigation Police Agency, Dak Lak Provincial Police announced that they were temporarily detaining Nguyen Duy Hai (24 years old, residing in Ko H Neh hamlet, Cuor Dang commune, Cu M'gar district, Dak Lak province) to investigate the act of murder.

According to initial information, at around 5pm on May 22, Hai went to a friend's house in the same village to drink. At around 9pm the same day, Le Trong Truong Huy (20 years old, also living in Ko H Neh village) also came to drink with them.
Because he had been drinking before, when he sat down at the table Huy was drunk and spoke loudly, cursing at the people around him.
At around 10 p.m. the same day, seeing Huy still saying harsh words, Hai told Huy: "Here, we are having fun drinking and not talking and causing trouble." Hearing that, Huy said: "No matter who you know, if I see you on the street, I can beat you up." After saying that, Huy stood up and used both hands to flip the drinking table, causing the food on the table to fly onto Hai. At this time, seeing a Thai knife on the drinking table, Hai picked it up and stabbed Huy once in the left chest, causing the victim to collapse on the spot.
Huy was taken to the hospital by people for emergency treatment but the victim died. At about 1am on May 23, Hai went to Cuor Dang Commune Police Station to surrender and confess his crime.
