Nintendo Switch 2 is considered a big step forward in performance compared to its predecessor. However, recent information shows that despite being a new technology device, this portable console model is still "out of breath" compared to Xbox Series X or PS5. Therefore, Switch 2 is still struggling to catch up with its competitors in terms of performance.

Most users probably aren't too concerned about the Switch 2's performance, which is expected to be capable of handling modern games smoothly. However, recent comments from the development team of Donkey Kong Bananza - a Switch 2 exclusive game - show that even Nintendo is feeling the limitations of the console's technical specifications.

In an interview with La Vanguardia , Mr. Kazuya Takahashi, director of Donkey Kong Bananza , frankly admitted the phenomenon of frame drops in this game, which the reporter noted when experiencing the game.

However, the director also emphasized that there are “many different factors” that need to be considered that impact the overall performance of the game, suggesting that Nintendo is well aware of the technical challenges of its latest console.

“First, we intentionally used effects like collision stops and slow-downs to emphasize impact,” Takahashi said of the game’s environmental destruction.

“On the other hand, with the use of voxel technology, there are times when the landscape undergoes major changes and destruction. We noticed that at these moments, performance can be affected a bit,” he added.

Donkey Kong Bananza's environmental destruction is considered a technically impressive showcase, explaining why Nintendo chose to wait for a new console release rather than complete development on the Switch.

While previews haven't reported any significant technical issues, some have suggested that the destruction gameplay could become "chaotic," pushing the Switch 2's hardware to its limits.

The minor performance issues with Donkey Kong Bananza may not immediately impact the experience for most players, but critics are questioning the Switch 2's ability to handle more demanding titles.

The performance issues of a light-hearted game like Donkey Kong Bananza have been a concern for many users. Stutter/lag has started to be reported in some other features of the Switch 2, such as low frame rates in the in-game chat feature.

Still, analysts believe that over time, developers will learn how to maximize the potential of existing hardware, which is capable of displaying up to 120 frames per second.

This means that issues like frame rate drops will likely be resolved when Nintendo's next big titles like Mario come out, which is a positive sign that the Switch 2 will likely see smoother, more stable performance in the near future.
