On October 5, the Oncology Hospital (HCMC) said that the hospital has 2 MRI machines for patients but they are often broken, affecting medical examination and treatment activities. After a period of repair, one machine is now working normally.
Accordingly, the 3.0 Tesla MRI machine at the hospital's second facility began operating that morning to meet the treatment needs of patients.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital reported that the unit had 2 MRI machines for patients, one at facility 1 (Binh Thanh district) which had been in use for more than 10 years but had recently been frequently damaged and had stopped working, with very high repair costs. The hospital's leadership had planned to buy a new machine, expected to be deployed in 2024 using the city's stimulus loan mechanism. Therefore, the hospital sent patients to facility 2 for MRI when indicated.
Recently, the MRI machine at facility 2 suddenly broke down after more than 3 years of use. Therefore, the treatment process was interrupted. In response to the above incident, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requested that hospitals with MRI machines that are not being used at full capacity support the Oncology Hospital, so that cancer patients will not be disadvantaged while waiting for the hospital to repair and replace the machine with a new one.
Two hospitals, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital and Hong Duc (branch 2), have volunteered and are ready to support MRI scans for inpatients and outpatients of the Oncology Hospital.
