Mazda has officially launched the third generation of the CX-5 in the Japanese domestic market, following its launch in Europe in late 2025 and in the US in early 2026.
A notable feature of the new generation CX-5 is that Mazda offers different powertrain configurations depending on the market. In North America, the vehicle continues to use the traditional, non-electrified 2.5L SkyActiv-G gasoline engine. Meanwhile, the European version is equipped with a mild-hybrid powertrain.

In Japan, the Mazda CX-5 still uses the same 2.5L mild hybrid engine as in Europe, but it has been significantly refined for greater performance.
According to the published specifications, the gasoline engine delivers 176 horsepower and 234 Nm of torque, combined with an electric motor producing 6.4 horsepower and 60 Nm of torque.
Compared to the European hybrid version, which only produces 139 horsepower, the configuration for the Japanese market is significantly more powerful, even though it uses the same powertrain platform.

However, the hybrid version in Japan still hasn't surpassed the all-gasoline variant sold in North America. Specifically, the CX-5 with the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine in the US currently produces 187 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque.
Similar to other markets, the Mazda CX-5 in Japan uses a 6-speed automatic transmission and has an optional all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

Currently, the hybrid versions of the Japanese CX-5 are only mild-hybrid, not full hybrid. Nevertheless, this configuration still optimizes fuel consumption while maintaining a competitive price, a factor that has contributed to the CX-5's success.
In the future, Mazda will introduce its own fully hybrid system, expected to be equipped on the next-generation CX-5 in 2027.
The foundation of this system is the new SkyActiv-Z engine technology, which promises improved performance and fuel efficiency for Mazda's next-generation electrified vehicles.

In Vietnam, the Mazda CX-5 is currently being sold in its older version. The new generation version was previously displayed and is expected to go on sale later this year. There is no information yet on pricing, but the expected price will be higher than the previous model's range of 699-979 million VND.
In the US market, the new Mazda CX-5 starts at $29,990 (approximately 790 million VND), excluding a $1,495 (approximately 39 million VND) shipping fee.
