Messi shines to help Argentina win opening match of Copa America 2024

Lionel Messi, although not scoring, made a big contribution by leaving his mark on both of Argentina's goals in the 2-0 win over Canada on the opening day of the Copa America.

Argentina got off to a flying start at Copa America 2024 with a 2-0 win over Canada on the opening day.

Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez took turns scoring to bring 3 points to the defending champions.

Lionel Messi did not score any goals in this match but also contributed greatly by leaving his mark on both of his team's goals.

The opening match of Copa America was exciting from the start as both Argentina and Canada took the initiative to play offensively.

Many dangerous situations were created by players from both sides towards each other's goal in the first 45 minutes of play but no goals were scored.

However, right at the beginning of the second half, the deadlock was broken when Argentina scored the opening goal after a good combination.

In the 49th minute, Lionel Messi had a perfect pass for Mac Allister to rush down, creating an opportunity for Julián Álvarez to finish from a narrow angle to score for Argentina.

Julián Álvarez's goal made the match even more exciting as Canada was forced to push forward in search of a goal.

Argentina also had many dangerous situations, including captain Lionel Messi.

Messi had two face-to-face situations with goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau in the 65th and 79th minutes, but "El Pulga" was quite unlucky when he could not bring home a goal for his team.

Having no luck in scoring, Messi then had two delicious assists for Lautaro Martinez and Otamendi but both failed to capitalize.

However, in the 89th minute, Argentina's efforts were rewarded. Messi passed the ball well for Lautaro Martinez to finish past the Canadian goalkeeper, sealing a 2-0 victory for Argentina./.
